We've been running Gt12 as a class at 702 Rc Raceway recently. It was on the uptick then quarantine happened. Now that we're back its running again and growing every week. With cool bodies, easy to drive and maintain cars, and speed its been both fast and furious. What is hasn't been is a lot of drama and issues. We put together a facebook group and website with our basic rules to try and keep it going and hopefully help some other clubs get the pan cars dusted off.
With rubber tires around the corner or on the UPS truck now is a great time to get fair, fast, and affordable racing going. Take a look at the site(https://gt12usaspec.com/) and lets try to compare what other clubs are doing so we can try to come together as a community with some shared knowledge and best practices.

Any reason for 25.5 instead of 21.5?

Looks like 12th scale with GT bodies. GT12 runs 13.5 1S 26mm green stripe tires, GT bodies and a very unique chassis. See the Schumacher Atom Pro for an example.

Why?

The 2s standard is easier to support in the US, the speed control batteries, motors, chargers easily translate to other US classes like F1, buggies, etc.



The lower torque of a 25.5 motor with 2s is drive-able and fast but with a shorty low profile battery easily fits in most available 1/12 chassis.

No, there are more 1S 12th scale cars sitting on shelves than you can imagine. It's literally the oldest RC class run internationally. With available hardware and electronics, it's not any harder to support.

And there's already a class internationally called GT12 with established rules. Just because a local track is pushing hard to get their class recognized, doesn't mean they can use an established class name. BRCA and other countries in Europe have been running GT12 for years. I'm not objecting what they want to run. The name is already taken.

And what are the BRCA standards as they even state in their rules they are following? Now there is well written set of rules.

I just started in 1/12 this year. One race so far, only 4 of us. I saw what they had on their site.

I like they idea. And I’m open to ideas. I don’t really see it getting beyond a local thing. Considering the state of on road here, I’m open to ideas.

I know I'll see you running little cars at some point either in Madison or at Sidwinderz. We need to get a group together to come down to St. Charles to run 1/10th. Most of us ran GT12 about 4 or 5 years ago, but we all have regular 12th scales too. I think we last ran 13.5 last fall. I know, way off topic. Being one of the few F6 owners, I would rather run F1 with a 25.5.

Hanulec - 25.5 is just a bit slower and easier to drive. Most of the drivers attracted to this are sportsman or novices. Also because of F1 and VTA there are a lot of 25.5's laying around here. I tested with 21.5 lap times were consistent with 25.5 and a touch faster with 21.5 but would be harder for a sportsman or novice racer.

1s Support - It is moderately harder to support. Why? Almost all of us had an extra battery, motor, and speed control around. I've had extra motors to give away that were my back up to the back up. At a time when a lot of us are stretched for race bucks its just easier to get started with 2s. The equipment then easily transfers to other classes like F1 or VTA if you move on or over to this. There aren't any 1s speed controls really just lying around our pit boxes or as easily available. The 4 1s speed controls on A-Main are 2x-3x the cost of a Hobbywing Justock. Its about what you can reuse and get easily, for us here in Vegas 2s 25.5 made the most sense. We tested it, it was fun. We raced it, it was more fun. Now we're trying to help other people have fun...

As far as they name if the BRCA objects sure we'll change it, but I think the distinction is made with the USA Spec.

I’ve been at St. Charles the last two weekends. I know what 17.5 1s and now 10.5 1s, and F1 look like there( video is in the 1/12 thread). I would guess these would be similar speed to F1, but that’s just a guess.

Billy Kelly, I'll be in that area for the 4th and wish I'd have time to run there but family... I grew up shopping at Leisure Hours in Joliet.

Speed wise, I'm not a great driver but was on pace with a better driver in Expert Sedan. My fast lap was 14.1, if I could have only strung together 20 of them. The best part is I do more painting of bodies than wrenching. One of our fastest guys has a 3rd hand $40 car.
