Default 702 Raceway January Carpet Setup

Here's the car setup I used for the 702 Raceway GT-12 race. It actually handled really well for indoor carpet. The only major change I made was going from front Silver springs when the track was green to black front springs once the track grip went way up. The layout for the track was clockwise and most of the track was very fast and flowing with the only exception being the death chicane on the left side of the track (Which claimed alot of cars in all of practice and the races)

GT12 noob question: How much do you cut down? what is generally a good balance of downforce and low-drag?

I've been using the lowest molded in cut line on the Montec Akura.

You don't need much wing for gt12 but you do need some. Cut to the middle line if your body has one for the wing, if not then cut to the lowest line. Tall wings create more drag than usable downforce, we don't carry enough speeds to run big wang gang. :-)

Basically everyone that I run with cuts the rear wings ALL the way down. Top speed vs. useable downforce thing. I think if you are on a high speed track with a lot of sweepers some more rear wing could help.

It depends on the track. If on black carpet but on a cold cement floor on rubber tires, the rear may slide around a lot and a medium wing would be better. If on really grippy black carpet, the front may actually push a little so hack the crap out of the wing. Our home club is a mix... black carpet on a sub floor, but new carpet this season, so not super high grip, more medium grip. I may cut more off my wing next week to get a little more rotation. See the photo I posted above.

Is there a minimum amount of wing in GT12?

Do the rules allow you to cut to the lowest marked line? There are three cut lines across the back of the Akura as well as another cut line across the front, horizontal portion of the wing to make it even smaller. If the rule states, "cut to factory cut lines" then as small as allowed on a high grip track, may be the ticket.

As I've said before, just cut to the lowest line on the Akura and you won't have any issues. It's completely legal and will be just fine on any track.
