XRAY T4'20 SPEC
#646

I just built my '20 and had to really tighten the rear belt to keep it from hitting the motor mount. I would normally run the rear belt much looser. I am wondering if the drag from a tight belt will be better or worse then the drag from the belt hitting the motor mount. What do you think?
I left the front belt loose, but should I tighten it up to match the rear belt or not?
Thanks!

There was much discussion on this point (rear belt contacting the motor mount) when the kit first came out. My understanding is that because the contact occurs on the slack side, there is little consequence. I remember someone mentioning that they had quite a few packs through the car and the logos were still intact. I'm thinking if there was any significant friction, the logos would have been rubbed off.

Does this apply for the ‘19 model as well?

Building this car for USGT.
Any idea what pinion and spur to start with. Slighty large indoor, crc black carpet track. Any different springs needed?

Yeah we're running the new spec motor.

damn. I'm not running the "spec" motor yet as it hasn't arrived. but I was wondering the same.. currently with the r1 21.5 I'm geared 47/96.. you think I'll go up 5+ teeth on the pinion with the motor swap, seems substantial

I run on smaller track! The motor has a lot of torque. I was running 96/51, 3.576 FDR. This weekend went down to 90/48, FDR: 3.562 to start. Then experimented with 90/49 (where I ran most day 3.49), was very happy across the board. Another driver tried 90/50, FDR: 3.42. That was similar, but thought might be losing on the infield, but lap times were maintained and more consistent for him. AS the track gets larger, I have heard being 3.2-3.4. You will need to adjust to your liking.

Thanks for the gearing tips.
Do you run the 23mm thick packs? Or the thinner LCG 18mm packs?

Thanks. I'll try to find a battery around 270g's. The ULCG battery is only 230ish, so that's 6 extra steel weights, and that's a bit much.
I'm going to try a heavy SMC aluminum ESC first. I have an extra Tekin RS spec available if I need a lighter ESC.
