OK, if you are limited to 19K at 7.2 volts (which is not such a fast motor) then start with a new Johnson 540J, part #53689 (not a Mabuchi- you'll get much better results with the Johnson) and just run it at low voltage (3-4 volts) with a slave motor (hook up the slave at reverse polarity so the race motor rotates in the correct direction) continuously for 3 or 4 days. Use comm drops on the comm (any light-colored comm drop works fine) and oil the bushings twice a day. That will loosen it up real nice and make it as fast as it will ever be without...enhancements.

Doc, what is your preferred cleaning regime between rounds at a meet ??
I seem to have stumbled across a half decent motor and wish to keep it in good condition.
Cheers !!

I usually clean after 3 runs. Light comm drops, 2-3 minutes at 3-4 volts, then 3 quick shots of motor spray. Relube. Easy!

I cleaned it up prior to last weeks racing and the car screamed. You were telling Princess to get out of my way if you recall.
It got progressively slower as the night went on.
I'll take your word on the last comment as the truth

I agree with Doc on his cleaning regiments I also do the same but a little added help to a pretty worn out motor is to take brasso and apply to the comm with a needled applicator and run the motor with a slave motor kooked up backwards so that the motor you are cleaning runs the correct direction. After running the slave motors for 2 minutes at 1.5 - 2 volts remove the motor and rinse with water till clean. Then run your motor at 1.5 - 2volts for 2 minutes, clean with motor spray and apply bushing oil to bushing. Here is something that also works well is after the bushing oil application run your motor backwards for 3 minutes at 3 volts you will also gain RPM but shhh don't tell anyone. Its a good idea to dyno your motor and see your results as you go through different procedures so you know what works for you and what dosen't. GOOD RUCK TO EBWEONE

In any case pick the one drawing 1.7 amps. The lower amp draw will give you a cooler running motor and will last the whole race w/out dropping off in performance.

Stock silver cans usually fall in the .9 to 1.1 amp range at 5v. Those 2 motors are very unusual or are not the Tamiya #53689. This is assuming the amp draw was measured properly.
