Tamiya M-08
#811

I see that the 288 GTO body is available for a decent price right now and quite independently thought that an M08 is the only chassis it makes sense for it to fit on. I can see how 2mm can come from the wheelbase by relocating the rear wishbones forward on their spacers (to get to 208mm). Do you mind sharing how you got the rest of the way? I'm guessing filing of the front wishbones and replacing with spacers gains 1mm, filing the rear hubs and replacing with spacers is another 1mm. What other magic did you pull off? Do M07 front C-Hubs allow filing 1mm there too?
The other surprise is that I thought the 288 GTO was narrow front track (my guess was that it was way down at 150mm based off what Tamiya publish as front tread width of the GT01). I presume that's not the case, or that you've used radically different front arms.

I've got 55D tyres on order to help with wheel arch fitment and appreciate I may have to run a shorty Lipo.

How are people setting up droop and ride height on a plastic chassis? I haven't had much experience setting up plastic tubs, its not as easy as a flat carbon deck.

Ride height on the edge of the chassis under the steering and motor. Droop by putting the car on blocks and measuring the axle height.

Just remember that it reverses the angle a little if you use the option plates. But in my case it actually calmed down my steering a little bit which is what I wanted.
To mount the body at the front I had to trim the front poles the little triangle in corner away.
for the rear I have for years mounted my arms directly to my carbon damper stays. This allows them to be a bit more to the rear.
make sure to support the nose by foam or make a support structure cause otherwise it will lean down too much.

Just curious what people preference is for Wheelbase and why?
I am still so much testing with many variables trying to find my sweet spot for a solid handling car.
I got bodies for all wheelbases, all though I rarely use the MWB.

My preference is MWB, good steering and agility.
SWB - no steering
LWB - loss of agility

M08R sounds like it could be alot of fun. I am interested in getting one to attend a TCS event. I really want the M08R but i recall back in the day hearing that the FWD m-chassis was quicker on the track; is this still the case with the M08 and M07 or are they evenly matched?

Not sure it matters much as M07's are impossible to find it seems. If there is a stock of them out there I am unaware and would welcome the tip! I would love to pick up a NIB M07 any day of the week at a reasonable price. That said, I am not sure it could ever take the place of my M08. It took me to sort it out but now it's on rails. It's challenging but super rewarding to drive. Gotta be smooooth with it but if you do your part, it's an absolute joy to drive.
