Tamiya M-08

My car already has more hop-ups than an R! It only cost me a small fortune....

I wouldn't bet money on that, though. Usually the R model has some exclusive gimmick, maybe it just isn't posted on that blog entry. Actually I hope it will have such a gimmick again, just for making us wait so damn long. Otherwise I could have just gotten a standard M-08 some time ago.
That's normal. The "R" doesn't get all that many hop up parts in the box. Quite a few people put way more things on their standard M-08s than is ever included in the "R". Still, so far there were usually some exclusive parts specific to the R version included, like the battery holder thingies on the M-07R - nothing really important but nice to have. Hell, I just want the "R" to get the family together.
And of course it will still get the full hop up treatment in blue aluminium and all - must not look worse than its older brother.

I would have at least thought a carbon reinforced chassis for the M08 would be out by now.

The one part I hope the R version fixes is the weak front hubs. But honestly, don’t know what more options to install on my M-08 other than a better driver.
The alu supports in the middle really make it easier to adjust wheelbase.
Currently got the Aygo for LWB after driven the Silva all season last year. Midnight Pumpkin for the SWB and waiting for the Lotus for MWB to replace the MX-5
my biggest advice is to also seal the gearbox from dirt cause I replaced gears a few times just because the openings allowed it to easily enter the gearbox and make it sound like a coffee grinder.

And as said the mid supports means I can now regularly change length without worrying about ruining the plastic.

I'm inclined to agree. Not as many hopups that actually help performance... if you buy the R kit there's a dozen hop ups you'd still want to buy if you race. (This may even be a new low for Tamiya ?)

No, neither "new" nor "low" for Tamiya. Even other R or RR versions do not come with many useful tuning parts. I don't really expect them to, either.
