I can only say for myself. I don't believe it's a let down. I am being vague because I don't want people to know it's fast. For anyone who had the magically fast setup days with the M04...... the M08 is even better. This car is all about getting the steering right and F/R droop.

Yes, we have found out that this car is pretty sensitive to droop changes too.

I know it's all about being different though. At first I gave it a thought to buy one but I will just buy some M07 hop ups instead :P

I just spent an hour shimming mine.. I put a 5x 0,1 shim on bottom of king pin screw and 5x 0,3 on top king pin. This took out the up down shim. The reason for the 5mm shim is you need to get it around the insert .. this car doesn’t have a pipe joint like TC. I also put o-rings on all ball ends. Last I did away with the tall spacer on steering upright. Seems to high to me but I could be wrong.
My opinion is that this car will dominate on carpet Asphalt will still be dominated by M07

... so it comes with really soft springs. And really short shocks. The build is easy. Diff access is what.. four screws? five screws? good deal there. The 3-racing swaybar set... has the wrong size cups for the front arms. :-/
The motor mount is nice.
The rear shock mount is somewhat questionable... I'd like an aluminum mount back there. The front shock tower is.. closer to the M06 than I'd like. More to come later, as per usual.

+1... super important on rwd. The old adage of m chassis works better without shimming works works on fwd.. not rwd. On the FWD the front wheels are pulling you everywhere.. on RWD you need the front to be precise.

I alreay found a really good setup on aspahalt,
Hard sway bars in front, soft in the rear
original dampers build like kit instructions - Oil in front 500 tamiya Oil in rear 800 tamiya
Springs red in front, white in rear
Tires: Type A hard insert in front , S Grip soft insert in the rear
2 degrees positive chamber in the front for the a-type tires
works great for me.
BUT: i am really disappointed about the steering .
I also switched back to the plastic steering instead of the alloy one, because of less play...
Could you upload some photos of your solution with the Orings ?

I too noticed that the aluminium arms have a lot of play. Specially the one that has the arm that connects to servo. when you move it, you can see the gap on the bearing and arm. Im going to try using silicone pipe tape (that one plumbers use) to see if that can tighten it up.

So, here we go. I built the M08.
Lets hit some big points. First, it's totally a touring car. It's as close as you can get to double deck while still being made of plastic.

I bought screws to replace the phillips head screws.

I literally type this up 3 times with comments in line and each time it did not work. Very annoying. Ok I believe I solved the problem. For the steering arms, you need to shim the bearing not the arm!
On the arm that attaches to the servo, I used 2@ 6 x 0,1 mm shim. I placed them inside the arm and then installed the bearing. On left arm I only needed 1@ 6 x 0,1 mm shim. Yours may be different
On the bridge I also aded 2 @ 5 x 0,15 shims ( 3racing has halves). These were in addition to the 2@ 3 x 0,1 mm shims per the manual. I also coated the shims with Finishline Ceramic Dry Wax Lub (used for cycling)
At present all play is going from steering linkages.. the only play I have is from the plastic uprights
