Xray bearings
I read that the factory bearings have two different materials for dust shields. There is a outer side and there is the inner side. You have to install the bearing with the proper side facing out. Is this true and how cdan you tell the difference. Thanks

I just broke down the bearings ion my 05 for the first time and they were the blue shielded ones on both sides. From what I saw they were identical and I paid no atention to getting them back in any special way. No problems for me. My answer is they are the same on both sides.

Take a look at the 'When and how should I clean my bearings?'
post in the XRAY T1FK'05 FAQ thread for an explanation and cleaning instructions.

I mark the seals with permanent marker before i open the bearing.
That way i can not make mistakes, when i clean the bearings for a second time the marker is still on the seals so i dont have to do it again.

Ummm . . .Are we talking about opposite sides of the same seal, or are we talking about both seals with one seal being an inner seal and one seal being an outer seal? I was saying that either seal can be placed either inner or out orientation on the car. There are definitely two sides to an individual seal. On my car the outside was coated with a blue rubber material and the iother side was uncoated. Hope I am not creating more confusion.

On used bearings, the inner side of each seal usually has some silver/gold looking metal flakes that have been pressed into the seal.
