Default TRF 404x History ??

Hi,

Tamiya had a development prototype chassis called the TRF404x which later went on to be the TRF414 series.

Does anyone have any knowledge and pictures regarding the development of the Tamiya TRF404x ?

Did TECH Racing have any input into the design and construction of this chassis?

Does anyone have any parts?

Regards

Scotty

Mate, here are some old photos/articles from Japanese magazine year 2000 for your kind reference.

Pls note the following evolution of TRF404X to TRF414:

TRF404X with blue color parts -I guess this is the original prototype 404X by looking at the lower/thinner front & rear shock tower;

TRF 404X (silver parts) - the development racing kit with longer wheel base than the TRF414X.

TRF 414X with pink front bumper - 24hrs race kit as mentioned in TRF homepage;

TRF 414X JMRCA with Orange Orion Jenson motor in 1999;

TRF 414X final race version with Orion Chrome motor in 1999 year end;

TRF 414 was ready in year 2000 with the limited production kit & the rest was history with 5 world championship starting with TRF 414M & Surikarn.

Pls also take a close look at those TRF414X graphite toe blocks instead of alum toe blocks commonly use today. TRF414M came with alum toe block & threaded type shock body later.

However, I think the original 414 series was purely Tamiya in-house design & developed by Mr. Miura, not TECH. TECH may come in later for 415/416 series after Mr. Miura left with Surikarn to HPI. (I could be wrong)

Mika you have done a tremendous job of sharing what you have !

I really appreciate your kind help and sharing your knowledge what you have of the TRF414.

I can easily say I would have never found this information as it is hard to find.

Thank you Mika

I guess there would not be too many TRF404x prototypes made and none was released.

Kind Regards

Scotty

Here in Denmark, we have an RC site where people sell/buy used/new rc stuff.

Right now, a guy sells his 414X, number 142:

http://www.rcgalleri.dk/marked/rc-en...4-bil-trf-414x

His price is approx. 1100 euros.

More like a hybrid of the two.

The top one has 414 hubs and arms and chassis.

The bottom one has shock towers arms front one way and rear diff from the 414.

Not a whole lot of difference.

Since they are quite old now and hard to come by, just wanted to show'em off.
