Default Paypal Scam!!

Be warned that there is a paypal scam going around saying your account has been suspended. When you click on the link it ask for your email and password...It got me there. The web page it takes you to looks like a real paypal page and everything!! The next page ask for your CC info just like it does when you enter it into paypal....but the thing that caught my eye was the task bar did NOT turn yellow to show it was a secure page so I knew it wasnt a real paypal page!!

if the web page doesnt start with https then its not real!!

in IE.. in the lower right hand corner you'll see a little picture of a "padlock" also letting you know the site is secure. also watch out for "expired" certificates. these sites are vulnerable also.

check out the URL too. make sure it has a paypal domain. (ex: https://login.paypal.com) if its an IP address.. dont fill out the info.

good looking out EA!

Yeah, I received that paypal email like once a week or so, no matter how I report it or remove it, it will be back.....

Remember 1 thing....there is no reason to FIND OUT this email is real or not real, just ask yourself............why would your account be suspended for no reason?

If I have paid up of everything I brought from someone or ebay, if I have not cheated anyone.......PAYPAL will not suspend your account for any reason.

Not just paypal, I have similar email regarding my discover card, my home mortgage, my I-pass (auto toll pay), my VISA, my MasterCard.....all are saying need my account and password for update......again, if you have paid up to day and never did anything WRONG...........delete all those email, even if your account does suspended, if they are legit...they will call you, you are their bread and butter, they should be the one that is worry if they have to suspend your account.

EA - this has been going on for sometime now. You will get them from Ebay as well, I actually did this entered my info and when I looked at the address it went to is was directed to bay.com not ebay.com..

Lately if I get something from paypal, ebay or anything. I type in the web address and log in that way so I know I went to thier page myself and not by a link from an e-mail...

nice catch though could of really screwed you over!!!!

big thing is to not click the link. don't be lazy. open a browser and then type in the url yourself. i like following those likes and entering crappy info. just to screw with them.

hope you changed all the password on paypal before they got your account. i have heard this on ebay to to steel your ebay account info

Man EA wish you would have caught this sooner. I got caught a couple months ago on it and had to get a new credit card. Luckily the card company noticed that it was trying to be used in Spain and called me about it and no charges were allowed. But it was a pain getting my card changed over and having to change all my paypal info to insure they didn't try to use that info.

Opening the email is ok, just don't click on any links.

Forward the email to [email protected] everytime you get this kind of email.

Also there are ebay spam mails too, just do the same, [email protected]

I have had it done with paypal and ebay.

Go directly to the "source" (www.paypal.com) don't click the link. You can send a report to paypal to look into it. Most cases paypal will not send you an email, unless you just did a tranaction. I tend not to trust many of those types of point and click email. People will scam you whatever way they can.

Pay-pal and Ebay will never ask you for a password or to login. They have been floating around for a few months. If your not sure of it just forward it on to there spoof address. And I do the same. I will go to the URL when I type in the address just to make sure. I did get one once that even had the logos from the web site. It was hard not to follow the info. But always remember..They wont ask you for your password according to both sites.

nothing new, but definately a problem. It'll even ask for SSN haha.
paypal will NEVER ever ask you. they even ask for the mothers maiden name.

plus if you pass your mouse over the link, you'll notice that the link doesnt go to paypal, but to a random site...

if in doubt of your account.. GO DIRECTLY to paypal and login. Do not, ever use a link from an email. Even if its from ebay!!

here is a screenshot to see what the FAKE asks you to verify.

THIS IS NOT REAL.. THIS IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES>

sorry GEOCITIES exceeded the bandwidth. DOH!

i attatched the image.

notice the address... LOL they did a good job of "imitating" i must say.

this is a great thread. it may not have been posted as early as it could have been, but there are tons of people who don't know how to handle this. it is good to see advice in a place we are accustomed to visiting.

props.

Just for the record as soon as I seen it wasnt a secure link I changed my passwords and security questions and then reported it to Paypal. I guess I am a lucky one that caught it before any damage was done!! Only took about 30 seconds to realize it but I have over 300 Paypal transactions.....Just think what some person that is new to this would think!!
