I gave the Scythe some more outdoor running yesterday at the popular Bedworth outdoor track. The layout is quite challenging and some parts are uphill, others are downhill, and there are quite a few nasty bumps as well!
The car seemed to hold up to the rigours of 5 cell modified well, and by the end of the day the car was almost perfect for my liking.

Here is a good video showing the good, close racing between myself (purple/white car) and Phil Chambers (white/blue/black) running a HB Cyclone (he certainly pulled some good manouvers!). The video is compiled of various clips taken at different times of the day, so you will see both cars' handling alter slightly throughout: video

Default Spring rate

Sorry Guys,

It is probably in a old post, but do you know what kind of springs Scythe have in standard box (in lbs)?

I just picked up a Scythe while I was in Hong Kong and I finally got to build it yesterday. The kit went together really smoothly considering I forgot to print out the instruction manual so I was just going off the parts diagram thing they include.

However, I do have a couple of issues. The first is more of a complaint but not really a big issue. The spur gear installation is a pain in the ass. I'm sure if I ever need to change the spur, more than a few foul words will be muttered. However, it's not a big issue and I'll live with it.

The other issue also isn't a huge issue but a little more frustrating. I can't get the front ride height above 5mm. With the shocks screwed all the way to the bottom, I'm at 4.5mm to the chassis and 4mm to the front bumper. Why the bumper is lower than the chassis, I don't know but I do know that it's a Yokomo bumper and it's the same on Yokomos. Now, I did use the short lower ball caps on the shocks. Changing to the longer ones should fix the problem.

Apart from that, I put the car on the track with no tuning and no body and was surprised at how well it drove. Initial turn in was amazing but coming out of the corner, the car tried to swing the back end around. I think this car has a lot of potential.

My first outdoor race with the Styhte was cancelled due to lots of rain overhere . Hopefully within two weeks we can try again .... hopefully on a dry track

@ Grease Monkey : take a look at some earlier posts , i had also some issues with the dampers too but after the tips my problem was gone.

The first problem you will get used to, i changed my spur today three times and i get quicker each time

The ridehight-problem could come by the bushes in the dampers. i cut mine short so you can get the rideheight and the droop. For the bumpers there is a part which levels the bumpers to the chassis: Front & Rear Bumper Height Spacer Set, prt# PO-SCH010

Regards,

Eric

I think everyone has a different method of getting the required length from the Yokomo dampers!

What I do is unthread the shock bottom a few mm. Then if possible I put an o-ring or low-friction spacer on the shaft so the exposed threads don't risk damaging the seal (making sure uptravel is not affected).

I leave the internal triangle-shaped spacer intact. My opinion is that it supports the shock shaft and keeps everything lined up.

I think I was built all 4 shocks to 62mm for the Scythe. I did put a post up earlier in the thread wth my build tips.

For the bumpers, I just trimmed the extra mm with a sharp knife. I didn't know about the parts mentioned above to space it, maybe they would be a neater solution.

The easiest way to solve the first problem is by using the perfect screwdriver! I orignally thought the same thing...but managed to find a small Philips head screwdriver that fits perfectly and makes changing spur a breeze.

As for the shock lengths/ride height...try using a 2mm spacer inside the shock body instead of the triangle piece

The low bumper plate can be solved with some 1mm shims underneath the plate, or you could buy the part mentioned by Eric.
