I still use mine but its a little lackluster. I tried the Jtech and its a little ore aggressive. I have the zodiac built but havent ran it yet and probably wont for awhile. I have high hopes for it because the dogsbollox is pretty aggressive. Let us know what you think after you run the zodiac.
Marcos.J and Bartolo Racing like this.

Default New to TC, recommendations

Hello, hope it is okay for a newbie that wants to enter TC to ask questions in this thread, as I'm thinking about building a XQ1S. Just a little background, I have in the past raced MiniZ just for fun (not too serious) at a local track. I'm now located in Shanghai for work and looking to get back in the hobby. There is a very nice local track, carpeted, not too far from me. The main "tech guy" doesn't speak any English, so a bit tough for me. He recommends Xray T4, but I feel it is too much investment for a beginner in this class. The local shop mainly sells Xray and Yokomo, and there is also a 3R dealer. However, I read a lot of good things about this Xpress, but would have to buy it myself online through most likely RC mart.

Class and basic rules:
Stock Touring 13.5 Blinky - max KV 3300, amps 2.3
Weight 1350g
Body 4 door touring
Sweep EXP-24R2 w/ EXP-LS inserts

My initial list of parts from RCM and items that I need some advice:
  • Futaba 3PV w/ R314B $105.90
  • Xpress XQ1S XP-90006 $99.90
  • Xpress Sonic 190mm XP-40099 $19.90
  • Hobbywing XERUN Justock w/ 3650 13.5T COMBO-XR10-JS4-G2 $79.90
  • Sweep 24 deg SWP-24R $19.90
  • wheel inserts?
  • Xpress composite spur gear 64P 96T #XP-40082 $3.50
  • motor gear?
  • Battery pack?
  • Steering servo?
  • roll bar kit?
  • springs?
  • tools?
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Xpress is a good choice if you want to race without investing too much. Rcmart has now a promotion with the kit, the combo and the body you point it out. I suppose that you can find a good Savox or PowerHD servo around 40$, any LiPO battery will be ok as it is rated over 90C, SMJ springs are very consistent (I recommend them) and you can find good tools by RCMart too...

About gearing I don't know, it depends from the size of the track it can go from 1:6.0 to 1:4.5... Hard to say...

As someone who just bought a 3pv. it's a hilariously terrible radio. It's a dozen button clicks to adjust anything of significance. I would not buy one.

You do want the sway bar kit. Pick up a m3 thread forming tap.

I like the Turnigy D99 as my cheap choice of steering servo, the TS-411 for the full size servo, and then the 1250TG when my budget isn't quite as tight.

Springs...are a harder thing to answer. I tend to go out on the track with stock springs, and be prepared to order a new set or few soon after.

Airwave & Nerobro - I appreciate the feedback!

Turnigy servos are not available from RC Mart, but I'll look at Savox or PowerHD. Anything in particular to focus on when looking at the specs?

For battery, what is the general approach -> build the car, then find battery with match to bring weight up to minimum for class?

I saw a post mention different setup for carpet. Are some parts needed? Springs?

Instead of 3PV, any recommendation on similar price range TX? Pay a little more and get Sanwa MT-S?

I drink the Spektrum kool-aid, so I run the DX5c and DX4c. Classicly I like Sanwa, but I've not used them to much. As for another Futaba recomendation, you'll need to ask here, as i'm not a futaba dude. You want a fast servo. PowerHD has some slow (and very strong) and some fast (and good) servos. I like their fast ones, I don't like their slow ones. Savox is expensive, but I've always liked the servos of theirs I've bought.

Post 41 says same body post holes as an X Ray. Does that mean the pre cut bodies like Bittydesigns and Montech for X Ray t4 are good to go with the precut wheel wells on this chassis? Placing and cutting wheel wells seems daunting. Just ordered an xq1s on a slow airplane. Im new to the whole on road thing been running off road last 2 years when the on road track opened back up after being closed. Looking forward to running this chassis once I get it.

i wouldnt body holes match but the wheelbase will be a little off if you want a perfect body fit i would cut it for the car itself believe it or not the body on my XQ1 did not have the same wheelbase as the XQ1s
