When you go to an RC race, planning on running the slower spec motor class (the class where you're not supposed to worry about what motor you have), you get there and find out some spec motors are more equal than others, that's when you turn around, sell all your stuff and find another hobby. Stock was always meant to be the entry level class where the motors were equal, and you could work on setup and driving. We racers ruined that looking for that "edge" on their competitors. It doesn't take long to realize the motor makes all the difference in the world, especially racing against equal skill racers. Motors have been a problem since the slot car days.

Handout spec motors is the answer to this, and it's working! Turnout at the tracks running it is way up, and racers are enjoying the close competition. It's not a question of what the best drivers will do, it's about the middle of the pack guys feeling like they have a chance of improving without spending hours working on motors. RC racing takes a big investment in time. You spend all week working on your car, only to show up at a club race and realize a couple guys have motors way faster than yours (I thought this was a spec class) , you realize there's no hope and there's no point in racing. Say what you want, but this is the reality.

Hanulec and company have found an answer, and we should be supporting it.

So now yo bur bringing in the Rotors? Heck they are cheating in Euro Trucks by cranking the motors and then complaining about blowing escs. Rasing the amp draw blows the esc's so now they want a different esc and they are letting them. The hand out motors are not going to solve anything- I've seen that before. Our hobby is having a hard time competeing with video games and just want to have fun. I go to our local hobbyshop and see what they sell every week. You can't find a single racing kit or motor/battery in the shop! It's all Traxxas and the other brands. they do sell HW stuff but for the play stuff..Try to get these play vechiles into organized racing- good luck. I've been the president of 3 clubs built several tracks held many races and getting racers at the track is the problem. We have a National Organization that is supposed to take care of these problems it's called ROAR. that nobody wants to support ! Everyone uses it rules and Everything is inspected by them and posted. Cheaters are cheater they will always cheat. Everyone wants to go faster.

This will be my last response to a Troll who clearly likes cheating.

Racers who purposely cheat -- should be disqualified and or band

Manufacturer who purposely cheat -- are liars. are stealing from customers. Are killing the hobby.

Spec motors have been done in the past . With some success at best ... But this time is different with the way a few other tracks have found . instead of getting a motor and running it at 90-100% of its ability (example trinity equalizer 17.5 with open gearing )
We use a much faster motor (example motiv 13.5) set timing lower than kill then restrict the fdr... This takes all aspects of advantage from any one hot part of the motor, cause the motor is stress free in the car and will only use 1000-1300mah thru a run , and still give lap times faster than the trinity junk (that's major inconsistant ). The racers will have access to these motors for 1/3 of many other motors on the market possibly even less when it comes to club racing .
If you havnt ran at one of the few tracks innthe country that are using this approach then I feel you might be jumping the gun judging this proposal

Now the truth comes out attacking a manufacturer? Our cheater is well known and he races at a different track down here. Everyone knows who he is.Motor- batterys, esc's and I forgot bodies and most important set up and drivers ability makes a difference. Every form of racing everyone pushes the rules to the gray area.Troll- I doubt it - seen cheaters for years. I won't bother you anymore.

We are always in a battery war. Sorry, this quoted reply was for jiml.

I've read some of this thread but haven't been following it. I'm confused. Is this discussion about a hand out motor working at a specific track and/or class. Is this about handout motors working at for a specific race series. Or is this something else. The original post was vague but reading between the lines it seemed to be referring to something specific.

Can someone please sum up this thread since it has grown quickly in just a few days.

When It started it was about how handout motors could work, and locations that it had worked. Recently it’s shifted toward this idea of much larger full race series with all classes running handout motors.

Some are saying that having a rule for the motor to be a standard piece that you cant even bring home with you has been good for their entries, and others say that may be so but soon enough people will realize that having the exact same amount of power in each car doesn't really change your finishing order, and then the Rule Brigade will move on to the next thing to regulate, which will probably be eyesight.

Not compleetly true......
Yes, everyone agrees that in most cases the finishing order will be the same but you did left out "with much less costs" and with "less differences" and taking away the motor speed secrets it can make a change in finishing orders.

I don't think anything else is of interest to be "regulated"... Just trying to make ~stock~ racing fair again..

I support the use of handout motors but seriously, "Stock" racing was never fair.

If you have handout or spec motors, let racers take them home. If a cheater is suspected, then tech their car and check the motor again. Nobody gets pissed about having their car teched, I personally consider it an honor.

The only thing better then passing tech is trading cars with accuser and beating them with their own car.

How is allowing a handout to be taken home and only teched when cheating is suspected, different from the current way of doing things?

All motors are built to certian specified criteria, some are better than others for one of a dozen reasons. But are all essentially the same. They go through tech, and if outside those criteria, are not allowed.

Handout motors will will be no different. Some will be better than others out the box, and you can bet your ass, if someone gets a pig and is allowed to take it home, it will come back with lipstick on it.

All this can-am hand out crap MIGHT work at big races, and a few of the bigger clubs, but it will never work at the small tracks. Most can barely keep a guy willing to do tech and/or run the races. Who the hell is going to keep track of all these motors?

And if already cost me $100 entry PLUS the purchase of a set or two of the spec tires only available at the event, now I have to “rent” a motor. So we are now possibly looking at $150-$200 PER CLASS to race, plus travel/hotel/food? Seems like a great business model to save entice more people to into the hobby 🤦🏻.

And tell me again how all this saves money? I’ve been running the same motors for over a year, and while I may not win every race, my car is on pace with anyone else on the track. Hell my 21.5 is set to 90% on the EPA and I still walk most of the field on the straight. It’s me, not the motor that keeps me off the top of the podium.

So so let’s keep arguing about how to “make the racing closer and more fair” for everyone by focusing on one thing while we run our $800+ chassis, new $100 batteries every couple months, $100 high amp diachargers, 6 different bodies all mounted differently, one/two race day tires, untold amounts in pit accessories and tools, and kids will just keep buying cheap drones and playing fortnight instead.
