Any of the modern battery transverse F1 cars will serve well. I tried nearly all of them (Xray, Yokomo, CRC, Roche) and they are pretty similar in handling once you dial in your spring and dampening settings to your liking.

So I've read through most of this. A lot of good info. I'm intrigued and interested in F1 but its not really much of a thing in my neck of the woods. I've considered getting a used F1 just for fun at the local track, but hope it might turn into something locally. I have an Associated VTA and TC and a CRC WGTR. I've been partial to a CRC WTF1 since it is similar to the CRC WGTR. However, there are some nice Xrays and some VBC Lightning in the For Sale thread. I've seen it said you can't go wrong with most and that it is more about the set up and driver. I don't know anything about the VBC Lightning or Xray. I am familaiar with CRC. Thoughts?

Since you have no local track support as the class doesn't exist (not yet at least), I would look for a car that you can get parts for easily. Check with your local hobby shops and see what they carry. There is nothing worse than waiting days if not weeks/months for parts to come in. I normally use the following criteria when looking to purchase a new car:

1) Local track support (what are the fast guys running for setup help, etc)
2) Local hobby shop support (for parts)
3) Model/Brand (durability, parts availability, age of car)
4) Price (you can get a very good deal by purchasing a used car from a fast guy as they tend to keep up with maintenance and their cars aren't usually very old)

Hope this helps.

We run on CRC black carpet. The Roche, Xray and CRC cars are all competitive. Set up is key of course. The R1 25.5 has a slight edge over the Motiv and TSR motors, but all 3 are very fast.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up buying a used CRC WTF1. I run the R1 Wurks 25.5 in my VTA and love it. Likely go that route in my F1, as well, along with the Hobbywing Justock ESC.

Hoping eventually this turns into a class at our local track, but if not, it'll be fun to drive on practice nights!!

Are they running the high torque rotor or the standard? I finally got the gearing/timing figured out on my R1 with HT rotor and it's a rocket in 25.5TC.

On carpet, the CRC F1 is definitely one of the best.

Iím interested in what you guys are saying. Shopping for an F1 too. I race at Village Raceway, South Florida. Itís a painted former soccer arena, so Iím sure the surface is similar. They have ran the ROAR Nats there before. Iíve been leaning Associated or an X-ray. CRC looks pretty good too, especially considering it is a $100 less than the others.

The CRC has just the chassis. No front and rear wings or body or tires. The winning chassis has been the CRC. I would recommend the new front A-Arms. If you can go to the snowbirds go to every ones pits and talk with them. When I go back to F1 in March i will be ordering a new CRC kit with the new front A Arms.

This is my order of best carpet kits.

FENIX MISTRAL (reason it comes with alum chassis and most adjustable)

Crc
Xray
Roche
Wrc
Ae

Crc,xray,Roche are all equal. I think bang for the buck xray wins.

You can mount a 25mm on the side like the first picture or a 30mm with the R1 motor fan mount in the second pic.
