Which race truggy is currently the best choice?
 

I've been looking at offerings from Tekno, Serpent, HB Racing, Mugen... Pretty much all the brands I can find. Most of them do seem to have features that set them apart from the others, but I can't seem to make a choice.

Tekno's ET48.3 doesn't appear to be anything special, materials or design wise, but it does look rather enormous compared to other 1/8 truggies, which is kind of cool.

Serpent's Cobra E-truggy utilizes bearing mounted swaybars (Why the hell does no other brand do this? It seems so obvious), a unique chassis layout, and some really nice materials.

HB Racing's E817T isn't on sale yet, but it looks like no stone went unturned in its design. I really like the fact that it uses aluminum hubs instead of the typical plastic. I really don't understand why so few companies include aluminum hubs. I know they're slightly heavier, but they're stronger, and suspension slop and friction are surely reduced.

Those are pretty much the three I've mainly been looking at. I'm totally open to any advice or suggestions though. Thanks.

Look at those 3 choose which ever one you have the most parts support for.

If I knew Durango would've had parts support, I would've went with the DEX8T. But we knew that wasn't going to happen. I ended up going with the 8ight-t 3.0 and it runs awesome but I have had some durability issues. At my track it's mainly TLR, AE and Tekno truggies.

They are all pretty close
the rest will depend on you

Don't overlook the Xray XT8. Typical excellent Xray quality and durability. Check the thread on RC Tech for additional information.

team c actually makes a nice truggy as well.

The Tekno is the most agile of them. The Serpent is more stable, both are very high quality kits.

If I was in the market, either Tenno or AE. All fine choices, really.

Easy choice, just pick the one that is the fastest.

What sort of durability issues. I actually ended up buying the TLR 8IGHT-T E 3.0. I wasn't finding my post was published, so I didn't see anyone's advice before I made my decision.

Ended up choosing the TLR because it seemed like a nice combination or good materials, solid design, good parts support, and... well, it's really nice looking. And I'm a sucker for good aesthetics.

Well, the Serpent has the weight more spread out on the chassis, and what I saw in race videos seemed to confirm it. Of course I don't know how far those trucks were from the stock setup.

well i have race oh most every e truggy out there and i can tell you from my ponit off view that tekno is so much better then a serpent truggy it handle better and it drive better

Tekno 50 % off broken or worn out parts is an awesome deal and shows they care about what people are breaking. My e817 and most I've come into contact with have bent chassis and stiffeners + the balls that hold the stiffeners break. Chassis are running 160+. Car works great don't get me wrong but nothing works well when the chassis looks like the bottom of 30in wheel. Went to 2 big events this summer and the TEAM support was wasn't what I was expecting for how great i'd been told they were. If I were re buying I'd go Tekno and never look back. Serpent car does look nice but I have 0 knowledge of Serpent and they have had 0 representation at races I've been too.

I don't think you can go wrong with Tekno. I went TLR just because I've always liked that truck. There is some history there, along with parts support. But Tekno is for sure a great option. I see a lot of them (all classes) at my local track.
