Just got myself a nomad! Wanted something fun to bash but with the desert buggy look. Was between this, the 1/5 losi DB xl-e, and 1/10 losi ten scbe (or tenacity db, newer version but plastic chassis).

Nomad - durable, not a new design but robust and just works, like the look of the blue aluminum bodied shocks and metal chassis, center of gravity is a little high with the thick body sitting higher up. Parts readily available being based on the rc8.2 and others

DB xl-e - looks the best imo, but too fragile, weighing 35lbs it doesnt jump well as the chassis slaps hard (only good on low horizontal jumps) and hitting a tree usually breaks something, parts are $$, due to 1/5 scale, less places to run it. Would be exciting at first due to sheer size, but then cost of ownership and maintenance will take its toll.

scbe/tenacity db - really designed for 2s with the 3800kv motor, I would be running 3s so didnt want to deal with hot electronics and later changing to a 2500kv. lightest of the 3 so lands with less authority. plastic shocks. $400-450 for a 1/10 scale is a little pricey. I have a 1/10 rustler vxl, so wanted something a little different.

Has anyone found a suitable 2.2/3.0 tire replacement? The ones i have looked at are all in the 4" range. Here is a pic of my stock Db8.

My hope is that Proline will make a Hyrax tire for the Traxxas UDR and that in turn is great for the DB8. We'd be able to use any tires released for the UDR. Another option is a softer tire from Traxxas as the stock one is a hard compound. Lastly would be an option from AE for the DB8, but that seems highly unlikely.

1/8 buggy wheels and tires and the 17mm 2.8 wheels and tires are the go to option at the moment.

Now if you want to invest in the 2.2 17mm aluminum wheels by Motoworxracing. Then any 2.2 tire is game on. They will set you back around 186.00 bones plus tires and upgraded foam. If desired. I'm currently using a set on my Arrma Rock Racer. Which, I first attempted to use on my DB8. Unfortunately it sets you wider than the 13.5" allowed for U4RC racing. Hence the reason I built an ARRMA. I'm the first to do it and it's legal. Confirmed by the good fellas at U4RC.

Heres my DB8 with the 2.2 Motoworx racing 17mm wheels

My arrma rock racer u4rc legal.

I would have posted sooner but I was having issues posting images on this forum. Seems all is good now.

They both came out awesome RCWERKS!!!

another wheel and tire option is to use 17mm HEX SC wheels, then cut the inner bead of any 2.2 tire to fit. Above picture shows Proline XL Super Swampers mounted on 3.0/2.2 SC wheels(DE Racing) compared to Motoworx and stock DB8 wheels. I’ve done several sets.

Here’s another option for wheels. This adapter will let you run any 12mm hex 2.2 wheels on the 8mm stub axle. I’m not sure what width can be achieved on the Associated truck though, but I know some guys achieved the legal 13.5” on Tekno SC and eb48.3 . With these adapters you’ll have tons of options with the vast amount of 2.2 wheels and tires out there.

These are 2.2 mayhem beadlocks . Fitted onto eb48.4 8mm stub axles using the rc4wd adapters . They should work the same on Associated 8mm axles.

Do you have any pics of the DB8 with the 2.8's or 1/8 buggy tires on it?

Right on, @Chainsaw10! Thanks!

Always a fan of your work. Sweet lookin rigs my friend. Question, do you have a pic of where and how much you trimmed the tires to make them fit on the SCT 17mm wheel?

I don’t have any pics before glueing, sorry. But if you have a wheel and tire in your hands it’s pretty easy to size it up. Just realize you can always cut more rubber off...you can’t put it back. So err on the side of not cutting enough initially. Once one tire is done carefully the others are a breeze because you just copy the first. I Use lexan body scissors.

here’s the two tires for size comparison. MX28’s will set your truck a bit lower, and quite a bit wider

Thanks chainsaw10. I went and ordered some Proline Badlands (not the mx) for 2.8 wheels. Im gonna try to stretch them over a 1/8 buggy wheel. That should give me the height i want out of a tire. Ill post pics when i get them done up.
