looking into gettin some new batteries and just wondering what everyones opinion on soft vs hard packs.

Hard packs. Some tracks even have a requirement for them.

Hard packs much more durable but will still get damaged eventually

for outdoor hardpacks if u can find them... just in case of crush damage... or buy a fire extinguisher :flaming:

Hard packs

This won't work on Lipos.

I made the mistake of trying a softpack in my SCTE once. The cell was damaged by the center diff gear, now fully puffed and sitting in my fire safe storage >.<

Only time I would ever run a soft pack is in something like a eRevo that has battery compartments.

depends on your tracks rules.. id go with either soft or hard.. a fire extinguisher will not do anything if a lipo fire occurs unless its halon..(outlawed in US) but i still have a box full..
dont see how a hard pak will get damaged unless u drive into a parked car or telephone pole at full speed.. my battery mount holds soft paks fine. kind of a case setup..

I don't even know why soft packs are even made anymore. No protection for the cells.

Yup, they're smaller and lighter.

Use hard packs for cars. However unlikely, battery retention sometimes fails (less likely with hard packs, since battery trays are designed around these common dimensions) and battery can get out of the car. All it takes is a shot to the edge of an unprotected cell and you've got a short, followed by a fire.

With a hard pack, you pick your stuff up, put it back together and keep running.
