Hpi trophy buggy flux vs kyosho inferno ve type 2

Hope someone can give me some advice. I've got kyosho inferno ve but just got my son a hpi trohpy buggy flux. Thinking they would be equivalent speed, but I just keep getting beaten in a race by the hpi. I'm trying to work out what it is? I'm thinking the gearing in the hpi or is it the motor esc setup. Any ideas. Does the scream motor in the hpi have the edge on the neon 8 I have?
