My B6 first impressions
 

Just picked up the 6D (I bought the lay down conversion as well) 2 days before race day. Got it all together with time to spare and ran a few practice sessions before racing started. Was worried that it wasn't going to steer like my Ymax but amazingly it had a bit more steering. I used Spencer Rivkins set up for high bite clay and it worked like a charm. The car handled like a dream. I TQ'd Beginner (aka Sportsman) stock buggy and what was even more impressive to me was my lap times only being about a tenth and a half different for my five lap intervals. The car was just super easy to stay consistent with and I could put it wherever I wanted to on the track.

I wanted to drop my ride height a little more then what it was (24mm) but I was pretty much all the way adjusted in the back. I was worried about traction rolling through some of our faster turns but the car ate them all up and was never in danger of rolling. We also have a 6 pack rhythm section. The first jump lip to landing is 8' apart and the last 2 sets are both 10' apart. In my Yokomo I had to scrub the first jump and hit the landing just right to get set up for the 2nd set and scrub the 2nd set as well to be able to make the 3rd. With the B6 I didn't have to worry so much about being perfect on the throttle and brake and could focus more on my line as it made it through the rhythm section time after time without a hiccup.

I can say truthfully that I only crashed once in the first race and once in the main and my lap times were so consistent because of this car. Can't be any happier then I am right now with how the car feels right out of the box. Only hop ups I am running is Schelle hubs, the 10gram brass C block, the lay down trans, gull wing front shock tower, gull wing arms and Schelle ceramic bearings for the trans. Car is powered with a Trinity 24k and its dragging fools down the straights and out of turns.

This car is absolutely amazing for my driving style and suits our high bite track to a T. The next day after racing went back for some more practice and turned 5 laps in the 16's with my best being a 16.3 which is slightly lower then what expert is averaging at 16.5-16.7. Most of my laps are still around high 17's to low 18's but it's getting better and again the consistency is more of what I'm looking for cuz the speed will come.

Thanks I saw that but I wasn't asking a question regarding the vehicle..threads like this and build threads if you read the rules are allowed..you should apply to be a mod since you prance around here like one:D

You are comparing a Ymax that isn't driving right with a good starting setup. Interesting theme on the chassis protector sheet!

My Ymax is driving just fine, my B6 just works better for me so far. I've tweaked the set up on my ymax multiple times and got it dialed in pretty much where I like it. I love the Yokomo, just wish we had parts available at my local track and I'd probably be running the new YZ2. That's the real reason why I switched to the B6 honestly. I have over $800.00 in brand new parts from Yokomo in my race bag so if I break something I can fix it without waiting a week for parts. Couple races ago I broke something I didn't have and it just kind of pushed me to buy the B6. Glad I did now because of the way it drives. I will always be a Yokomo fan though, it's a great car:)

Did you make the chassis protector?

It is a great car for sure! I have switched over to it from a schumie which I liked alot as well because it was different from others but the parts support was a PITA. So glad I have switched to AE.

Are you comparing stand up Ymax vs B6? If so I can share a setup issue I've seen on the YZ2s/RB6/TLR/old laydown...
Parts support were always Yokomo Achilles heel, let's see if with Maifield on board that changes. Not judging you, you did the right thing by buying a B6 :)

I'm interested in your set up advice just out of curiosity. I already sold both of my Yok's and all my parts.

Lil C. So you think its better than your RB6 you had? I know you enjoyed your Yok. I tried many times buying everything i could to get it to work at my track. Other guy that is better driver than me couldn't get his going also.

Yes for me it's better but I wont' go as far to say it's better for everyone. My RB6 was a pain in the ass. I spared no expense on it. I would get it dialed in and run the first heat and it would be awesome. Track conditions wouldn't change but my car would drive completely different in the next heat. It would never be the same throughout a full night of racing. Was the RB6 a good car, yea it was an ok car just couldn't get it to stay consistent.

When I went to the Yokomo I found the consistency I had been searching for. When I made changes and drove the car in practice I could see what was happening and then make whatever changes were necessary to get the car how I wanted it and it would stay good for me.

The difference between the Yokomo and the B6 is the B6 is easier for me to drive faster lap times without crashing. THe car is easy to put where I want to, I can drive the same line lap after lap and rhythm sections no longer seem difficult or that I have to be perfect to get through them. It's predictable. That being said it's not a perfect car and there are things I don't like about it like the soft plastic. Kyosho and Yokomo are far superior.

What kind of track is your friend running his B6 on? High bite clay, low bite loose? Just curious. What car was he running before and was it dialed in for him? Is he running the lay down or stand up? Rear shocks in front of the tower or behind it? What set up did he start out with?
