Default which motor to get

hello i am new to this forum and i have a traxxas rustler electric and i wanted to get a new motor i found 2 on ebay that im interested and i dont know which will be better and which will make my car go faster i will be getting a no limit turn speed control. when i install one motor or the other, will i need new gears because the stock is a 21 turn motor?

either its this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

or its http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

now i want the one that will make me go the fastest and the most reliable its like
50%- 50%
fast - reliable

if its possible with these 2 motors around what speed will i be getting compared to like around 20mph on a 21 turn motor right now

thanks a lot

Those two links are the same. An 8 turn single will blow a 21 turn out of the water for power and speed. Mod motors aren't as long lasting as the higher wind motors though, but it should do you fine.

If you want speed and torque get the 8x1 not that epic.

Of course, you have to change gears, the pinion. You upgraded to a 8T motor from a 21T. Try checking your manual if there is a guide for the pinion gear settings. I think you have to change to a lesser-tooth gear since it's a faster motor.

You should have waited for more input from us. The 8x1 D5 is by no means reliable. Maintenance is going to be a big issue, seeing as though it's a mod motor and it's an 8x1. You will be replacing brushes and cutting the comm flatout. If you want more reliability, I would suggest using the XXX Lemans brush - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJUR0&P=7

8 turns That is very, ummm, overkill. I had made this same post just recently and asked the same question. I am glad i came to my senses and listened to all the help in this forum. GET AN ORION REVOLUTION you will not be dissappointed. I got the 14 turn double and holy cow it is sooo damn fast and thats a 14 turn. I was extremely impressed at the how smooth, how powerful, how efficient, and just great performance from this motor. Very low maintence and great battery time. An 8 turn motor is for like drag racing and if thats the case you should be in the on-road forum

He wanted speed, well he got speed. Can only give answers for the question being asked. I wouldn't recommend the other motor to anybody, I've got that same motor only a 16 double and the thing is slower than a monster stock. I doubt a lower wind one would be much better as they are just cheapo motors.

It might have been better if you had gotten a 19T turn motor. It's still pretty fast and it has lesser maintainance. Then you work your way down with faster motors so that you wont have a hard time adjusting or getting used to it.

You better also be checking into getting a lathe to cut the comm in about 5 to 10 runs and buy alot of spare brushes. That 8T motor is not going to last long. Highly inadaquate for your app. You should of spent your money on a 12-14 turn team checkpoint or orion revolution v2 motor. These motors will last up to 4 to 5 times longer than what you bought and still produce excellent power. Good Luck.
