Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Wow Casper, that's what I have in my 3.0 now but with 4 gears. 20 k felt like a snug gear diff and is working well.
I had to use the axle spacers though, I was hearing random gnarly sounds and saw that the bones were almost coming out at 29mm stroke shock setting.

Frank, was the slipper spring updated for the 3.0? The part number looks the same, but I've heard some people say it is stiffer for the 3.0.

Mounted up a JC Silencer for the RB6 today on my TLR 22 3.0. Fits well and is higher up in the back so you don't have to cut a hole in the body if you use my fan mount brace.

It fits OK, the body flares out a bit much on the sides. I'm waiting on the official s2 bodies to drop, talking to JC it should be within the next week or two

If you find that your shorty packs have a tight fit, here's a small tip. I added 1mm washers between the waterfall and chassis that's held down by the two screws. Raising this will prevent the batt holder from bowing a lot, and also allowed me to slide the batt all the way back.

Did this with mine as well. Saw that the cover was bowing so much it was actually flexing the rear of the chassis. Something you might want to check.

I'm getting my kit next week. Anybody know for sure if the TLR 70t spur gear fits this kit? I'm taking the 17.5 gear out of my 2.0 and just want to make sure I can replicate my setup.

Yes but you must use the old style friction pads with the 70t. The pads included in the kit don't work.

Is the pink spring (tlr 5168) a low frequency spring? Can you buy the low frequency springs individually or do you have to buy the whole set?

Last time i checked you can do both- get a whole set OR get them in pairs. The set works out better in terms of value for money.

I don't believe the LF springs are available in pairs. Not in the US anyway.

Thanks, I knew about the pads. Next topic, I haven't seen any pics of an antenna mount on the chassis. Is there still a mount on the plastic side guards like on previous 22's? I like to run a short antenna tube on my vehicles.

Antenna mount is still in the sideguards.

The old slipper pads are compatible with the kits slipper plates.
