BentKa: Carpet Edition 4 gear to 3 gear laydown conversion parts:
  • Gearbox #323014
  • Motorplate #324012
  • 36T idler gear #324236
  • Brace for waterfall #324031

Socket: Bodies Available:

Xray has two OEM bodies, the .75mm and the .50mm light weight:
light weight: https://www.amainhobbies.com/xray-xb...329701/p492942

OEM .75mm: https://www.amainhobbies.com/xray-0....329700/p477762

Also, I've fitted the yz2 body, both the light and regular fit fine, just make your own cut lines:

[i] J Concepts S2 Body [i]

Penguin Racing makes a high grip body that fits the DE and CE:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-Ray-Xb2-Hi...oAAOSw1S9WewHV

Socket: Wheel fitment:

According to some, you'll require different offset rear hexes to use B5M wheels. According to my Hudy setup board, B5M wheels are the same offset. I measured the overall width of the car with XB2 wheels, and then again with B5M wheels, same measurement.

On the front, B5M wheels were 1.5mm wider. Xray offers hexes to reduce width -.75 on each side, or you could spend 3-5 minutes and sand your OEM hexes down .75mm.

edit by dgrobe2112
here are the hubs for losi and AE

for AE Front 365354 -0.75
for Losi rear 365358 +3.00 (4 stripe)
for AE rear 365359 +3.75 (5 stripe) or add 1.5mm carbon avid spacers

Socket: Flex and the XB2:

Flex screws are as follows:

Plastic bulkhead between motor and waterfall. Can remove screw in chassis, or remove bulkhead altogether.

Waterfall has 4 screws, can remove the inner two or outer two. IIRC, removing the inner two provides more flex, and thus more bite.

Removing the battery brace. This gives a tremendous amount of flex on the middle of the car, and can sometimes be inconsistent. I do this for outdoor racing on low bite. I like the feel over the 4 gear in 17.5 racing, since the 4 gear will take some snap away off the corner.

Rear C block - has inner and outer screws. I haven't played with this, as it's a crucial pivot point of the car.

Medium arms and towers -> I don't believe the carpet car has the rear medium tower available, however the DE DOES have an optional hard part. I think the hard parts are more consistent, especially when it gets hot (90+ degrees F). However, the medium parts do NOT break unless you're severely talented. They also don't wear out.

Socket: Avid/Schelle Slipper mod:

Credit to WillS, Matt Trimmings, and myself for figuring this out months ago.

Parts you'll need:

B5M V2 3gear compatible top shaft.
TKO Special 5x13x5 bear OR 5x13x6 bearing Either can work. This replaces the spur side bearing on the top shaft.
5mm shims, same shims used in 1/8th scale clutch bells. Look for protek .1mm and .2mm kit.
Avid or Schelle b5m top shaft kit, with spur gears of your choosing. (DE can't handle a 69, the CE can)

Shimming: You'll need to install the bearing in the front portion of the removable piece for the shaft. Make sure the bearing is pushed all the way in. With the TKO bearing, you'll need to shim approximately 1.4mm on the front side of the top shaft. Roughly .3-.5mm with the other bearing. This is a "feel" and tolerance setting. I urge you to watch videos about setting clutch bell play in 1/8th scale to get an idea of what yield you want for end play. Too tight, it'll eat bearings.

Outside of trans case: Use Avid/Schelle top shaft spacer plus .2mm shim to offset slipper from motor plate perfectly. Install slipper as instructed, and use Avid/Schelle spring and XB2 slipper nut.

- NEW - Schelle now sells Xb2 Topshafts. They include a spacer, so no need for shims in gearbox, and comes with the smaller bearing. Both methods work.

Socket: Yokomo Differential or MIP pucks:

Credit to: WillS for figuring out pucks, and as well fitting the Losi 22 diff with the same mods.

Parts needed: Yokomo Bmax2 or YZ2 complete diff OR Mip PUCKS outdrives
Xb2 diff gear
Bmax2 V3 Worlds rear dog bones, or Bmax 2 pucks dog bones
You'll use XB2 axles, and will require no other mods for the axles or dog bones.
You'll need .2mm outdrive/diff shims. Shim approximately .5mm on each side of the diff, behind the bearings. The top portion of the transmission is what "sets" the diff in place, not the bottom half. A little play back and forth is fine, the stock diff has some play from the factory.

dgrobe2112: CE to DE conversion:
along with the parts needed.. you MUST have these following hardware, or it wont work

https://www.teamxray.com/xb2/2016/do...conversion.pdf

(3) XRAY 902340 M3x40 button head screws. these are the screws that mount the motor mount to the tranny
(4) XRAY 903322 M3x22 counter sunk screws. these are for the rear diff case, to mount to the chassis. i think i used some M3x18 and they worked ok.

Socket: Best method for setting up the XB2 ball diff:

The XB2 diff is stellar when setup correctly. The spring is too short and soft, allowing the diff to slip. You'll need to glue the rings to the outdrives with just a drop of CA, then add a 1mm shim between the spring and the outdrive. This preloads the spring and stops the diff from slipping so easily.

OR, you can run the AE diff spring, which is both slightly longer, and stiffer. The overwhelming issue is the stock spring allows the nut to bottom out on the outdrive before the diff is tight enough.

This shim:

This diff spring (don't need a shim, then.)

Functional Aftermarket parts: (Not just bling!)

Servo Horn: (The B5M sized horns are too short to get full throw)
https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-...800-bk/p273496

Socket: Exotek has a full suite of parts, some bling, some not. Here's a list (all fit DE and CE, unless otherwise noted):

Titanium front axles: http://www.exotekracing.com/xb2-titanium-front-axles-2/

Rear Hanger, HD (Adds 4 grams): http://www.exotekracing.com/xb2-rear...75-heavy-duty/

R/C Tech Forums - View Single Post - Losi 22 4.0, Xb2 X-ray or Schumaher KC

i think the day of buying a RC and it being current for 13 years (which is a lie) is long gone. no one cries foul when they buy a 2016 mercedes cry foul when the 2017 comes out a with a kompressor, or sits on the fence waiting for 2018 with a improved kompressor? at one point whether RC or IRL you have to make a decision. RC companies are not innocent of releasing updated models as needed, but it comes down to perception

TLR 22 2.0 late 2013, TLR 22 3.0 came out for purchase early 2016, 3.0 SR version dec 2016, 22 4.0 apr 2017, 4.0 SR version aug 2017. not much different than xray and it appears to me platform changes were rather drastic. does a 22 3.0 gear box fit on a 22 2.0...nope. does a 22 4.0 gearbox work on a 22 3.0....nope. is anybody truly sure that in 2018 there won't be a 22 5.0?

surprizingly no one counts all the B4 kit variations as different, looking at google B4s, Worlds, B4.1, B4.2, and B4 Centro, ironicly not many cried foul and welcomed them with joyous tears, maybe because AE did not release them with date tags ie, B4 2010, B4 2011, B4 2013, etc, this enabled racers to believe slight changes only? alot of B5M drivers and industry was in shock on the B6 series drop. AE has room for a FT version, Worlds version, Championship version, and FL version. they don't add dates, so no one will complain

not defending Xray, but they tag their stuff by year for the model, but if you look at the 2016 XB2 C to 2017 platform pretty much the same went from 4 gear laydown to 3 and other minor changes. looking at 2016 XB2 D to 2017 version, nothing overly major narrower rear pivots, gear box redone so they work, bigger rear wheel hexes, etc is minor. four of their 2wd buggy trannies are interchangeable, except narrow pivot one

yokomo does there TCs with a year in the title, but not offroad. YZ2 DT or CA apr 2016, YZ2 DTM apr 2017. just found the BMAX2 thread which came out late 2012 early 2013, it had many versions B-MAX2 MR, RS, V.2, V.3, FACTORY, WORLDS it it's 3 year run prior to the YZ2

This hobby couldn't survive without planned obsolescence. Even archery does the same thing... new model every year, but I'm pretty sure the bow has stayed the same more or less for 20,000 years. The only decision to make is this... Is the hype worth another $400? Sometimes yes, sometimes no; but certainly not always.

Default Needed Hop Ups?

Hi guys I just ordered my first xb2 carpet Edition today and it should be in next week. What I wanted to know is if there are any common or needed hop-up parts for this car other than what comes in the Box? For example on my 22 4.0 you absolutely have to get the aluminum front camber block otherwise you're going to break it in almost instantly when you crash. I know there's a lot of parts that might be better for tuning and whatnot but right now what I'm looking for is just if there are any weak links in this car that I will probably be needing to upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

I've been reading this thread to see what the main improvements are over the original XB2 DE. Amain has the xb2 DE on clearance for 270 and the 2017 xb2 DE is 330.00. I was wondering if the 2017 DE is 60 dollars better then the I guess 2016 XB2 DE. I have the 2016 xb4 and Love it which is why I will only buy xray for a 2wd buggy. I run on medium to medium high traction clay. It's about a 50/50 ratio of stand up to laydown at my local indoor track(Bumps and Jumps). I'm still new so I'm leaning towards the rear grip the DE w/ the ball diff will give me. When I get better at set up maybe I will consider a laydown.

XRAY/RC America have a xb2 hybrid kit coming out that should cover what you need for your track.

The hybrid kit is the kit for me. That's what I'll be getting, no rush indoor is well over a month away.

If you race at bumps then get the laydown

Default Shock caps

Anyone know if xb4 shock caps fit the xb2? Most xray websites say no but I swear they look identical. I'm looking for something in aluminum as I crash too much and my fronts end up leaking. Exotek used to have some but not anymore and xray ones are hard to get and pricey.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't use the alu caps myself. If you crash too much and got leaking just put a new pair of plastics. They also act as a fuse in case of crash and you would rather broke a plastic cap than damage the socks body or the whole shock (of you damage the threads body/cap.
I once got a big crash on the rear of the car, broke a wishbone and the shock cap. Would have been worst if I ran the alu caps.

Plus I got one set for my first XB4 in 2013 and found the alu cap was wearing so I kept the plastic and never add an issue since.

Default Front axles

Hey do any of you know if there are different front axles I can get for the xb2? I have a bunch of Losi wheels and tires that I would like to run on this car but it seems as if I would need to get the extra wide axle spacer from xray. I can do that and already have someone order but it also seems like there won't be enough thread sticking out after I use them. I can't seem to find any longer front axles anywhere so I was wondering if anybody else has tried this solution in the past? Or maybe you guys have another idea short of buying two complete sets of tires. Thanks again.

You can try replace the inner bearing with 5x10x3mm and add 1mm spacer behind the hub. Some idea ??
