That spur gear is interesting as well....The motor is so far back, I don't see how that spur could work for connecting to the pinion.

Looks like the pinion spins and intermediate shaft that has the slipper and another smaller gear on it that is spinning the spur gear. Then on the shaft the spur spins, it has a gear on it that is the top gear of a 3 gear transmission, or even crazier - it has a belt going from that spur driven shaft to the diff directly. I would need to sit down and draw it - but I would assume the 3 gear trans because of where the motor is mounted.
Looks like it could be the same as the setup of the prototype RB6, they call it the laydown 3

I edited my post...

Here's a solid pic.

It's definitely a center mounted 3 gear.

He seems like a clever dude, there must be some explanation. Perhaps it's cleverly worked out to totally balance out all the driveline/motor rotating inertias... I can't see why you'd want all that weight right at the back though, especially on carpet/astro.

Or perhaps he's just messing with us. He's probably sitting at his computer right now reading our posts and laughing his ass off

Lightbulb

Elsewhere HB’s Canadian star and reigning 1:8 World Champion Ty Tessmann, who ran a Top 10 lap time, described the track as ‘pretty fun’. Running a pre-production version of HB’s upcoming 2WD kit release he said he has ‘just moved around weight for astro’. Pointing out that unlike most other manufacturers they don’t have an ‘astro turf chassis’ plate, he said the track was a little slower than he thought it would be and so he will make changes for this for the next practice.

Exclamation New in the Pits HB D216

On display for the first time at this week’s IFMAR World Championships at the Yatabe Arena is the unique D2’16 from HB. Designed to be a versatile platform it is particularly good on loose surfaces on which it has done most of its development work and testing. While not the final chassis, the configuration is set and it allows for 8 different battery positions, 4 inline and 4 sideways positions. Massively adjustable it has 9 kick up options, 5 caster positions, 5 trailing arm positions as well as adjustable arm sweep, all without using additional parts.
There's about a dozen pics in the link...

In production the car is expected to be released by the end of the year.

I love it, Can't wait until the end of the year to buy it, Hopefully it doesn't have the same kind of delays as the D4'13 did
