Drive and brake frequency adjust how many times per second the ESC lets current through. Increasing the frequency will make the throttle or brake feel much smoother, which can help with very high torque motors, but it will take away from the punch. Increasing drive and brake frequency felt terrible with a 17.5. Might be just what you need to get a strong 4-pole tamed though.

He is spot on.... but to add to that increasing frequency also creates more heat

My esc has the setting at 6000hz throttle frequency and goes up to like 16000 hz any idea where it should be for my 17.5 ?

I would start it as low as it will go (so 6000hz) and get a feel for that. Then dial it up and run it for a few laps. Should feel the difference right away-- then whatever works best for you.

If you step up to a big 6.5 motor or something maybe you'll want to try this setting again.

I know this on a 17.5 motor but ive tried it for the first time on a 6.5 for a 4wd buggy running on lower to med grip mixed dirt indoor track . I have a SMC esc and had it at 16kz with a lower tooth pinion throttle EPA at 94% punch at #3 setting, and yes it was quite easy to drive in could drive it hard and hit the jumps right but it had hardly any punch but enough to clear jumps etc.

So I went lower to a 8kz throttle frequency same punch control and man it was quite a difference although i had to be a little smoother on the throttle.

The motor felt warmer actually with it lower. Think i will lower the throttle EPA even more cause it was way to fast on the straightaway with the size of the track .
