Default Tire break in?

Hello all!
Was out at OCRC two Fridays ago and realized that even though I was running tires/foams in clay compound, my tires were not as soft and sticky as everybody else. What are people doing in order to get this level of traction? I'm waay off the level of perfomance that these guys have, granted some of it is setup, but alot of it is surely tires, advise?
Thanks all!

Most likely using a traction additive. WD40, Liquid Wrench (blue label) and PB Blaster are effective and inexpensive (esp. LW) but the track may have rules about what can/can't be used so it's best to ask. Lots of guys like Sticky Kicks too.

Are you sure, everyone else is on clay compound. Some might be running the same tire but in soft compound, instead of clay. Before you start applying different chemicals, like liquid wrench, wd40 etc. Check with the track and ask them if it's allowed and what do they suggest for sauce.

I race at oc/rc and we use RC1 tire sauce, others use liquid wrench. I prefer RC1 since you don't have to spray it on, and it doesn't stink as bad. Available in the hobby shop, and we all use clay tires.

Whats the process of application to the tires? Do I need to apply and let soak or something like that? I've also heard of Simple Green.

does traction compound make tires actually sticky or just more soft?

Softens and conditions the rubber. Its best to run aced tires at OC/rc since the track is so hard packed. Apply with a toothbrush. Don't soak the tires, use enough to cover with a thin layer and let dry.

Ive also heard the concept of "breaking in" tires. How is this accomplished other than simply running a tire?

Sauced.

People will sometimes run tires on the street for a minute or so to create an edge on the pins. I just run them until they break in.
