I have owned a rustler and a evader and I love my rustler but the evader is now a thing of the past. I have a $250 total budget And I have narrowed my decision on either a 2wd stampede or a 4wd ruckus. Obviously I want a monster truck. My son will be using it mostly and he is 8. My local hobby store stocks traxxas parts but the ruckus is supposed to be more durable. looks like both come with 2.4 ghz receivers, metal gears, lipo ready esc (which I use a 2s lipo.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 4x4 ruckus imo is head and shoulders above a 2wd stampede.

I did alot of research on the same category of vehicles before Christmas for my 6 year old son. I ultimately got a nitro circus sct for him but the ruckus was second on my list.

+1 for the ruckus 4x4. Your son will appreciate the 4x4. Much easier to drive then the 2wd
