Wheel balancing
 

Hello everyone

I have a question about wheel balancing for mainly 1/8 scale buggies, what do you guys use?
"Real" balancing clay from say Losi and other RC brands or do you use something else?
I know that many racers here in Denmark use something nicknamed elephantsnot. Do any of you guys do the same?

I just got a 1/8 scale buggy but I'll try the same method I guess. On my 1/10 buggy I use blu tack equivalent or as we call it here in france UHU Patafix . Works wonders.

Go to a golf store and pick up some lead tape (used for adding swing weight to golf clubs).

For a balancer, I use an old Losi rear buggy hub and axle assembly with old bearings that have freed up through use. Cheap, simple to use and easily fits in mt pit box.

I was lucky that a Hudy Wheel balancer was included when i got a second hand Durango DEX408 V1 buggy.

Oddly enough genuine Losi balancing clay bought in England is cheaper than anything else I can buy here in Denmark and that includes all sorts of stuff people I have spoken to here use.

For balancing 1/8th scale tires I use either self-adhesive lead tape (like at the golf store but I get a larger roll from McMaster-Carr) or 1/8" solid wire solder. I squash the solder in a vise to make it into a flat strip and attach it to the wheel with shoe goo. Once dry, it does not pick up any dirt like clay does.

I use the flattened solder when the wheel is more out of balance than can be corrected with a reasonable amount of the lead tape. Also, I cut the wire solder into pieces no longer than 3/8" because longer pieces tend to come unglued because of wheel flex.

Modeling clay.

I always balance my wheels. Modeling clay never worked for me, as it doesn't stick. I went to amazon.com and bought "poster tack"... its tacky sticky clay (that still peals off easy if you peel it off), and its the stuff used to put up posters in your room as a kid without putting holes in the walls. Works great. I use a prop balancer I got from Amain for $~30

I use a real wheel balance . from speed pro long outa biz.. and a adhesive called silaprene. once it dries its there for life of rim. but a hot blade removes it..iI also use the silaprene to hold my drag tires to rims and foams so I don't get ballooning tires. it drys in 20 minutes but stick instantly.. 24 hours is best cur time.
