Default Why was Jason Dias DQ'd at the Cactus Classic?

Just wondering. Looks like he qualified well in 17.5 SCT, and finished third. However, he's listed at dead last in the A main. I know he's a Team Kyosho and Schurrspeed guy, was he caught cheating?

they were teching the top 3 finishers. if you failed tech, DQ. So it stands to reason he was cheating in some fashion. weight or motor mostly likely.

Motor issue of some sort,
Didn't seem like he "knew", but it is what it is.

Long story short, last summer Jason dropped in some new truck and SC 17.5 motors from his sponsor, never looked inside them. Turns out they were assembled with the "mod" rotor (same OD, just different shaft) which was why they didn't pass tech at Cactus. This one falls on the person who assembled the motors non-standard and didn't mark them or tell the driver.

Jason is still a classy competitor in my book, he wouldn't knowingly want an illegal advantage.

Raise your hand if you are serious about 17.5 stock racing and have never looked inside your stock motor since last summer.

I heavily respect what kdub said and won't question it.

With Jason's motor sponsor onsite, isn't it customary to pull all of your motors down and self tech just to make sure?

For those of you that know everything.
My 17.5 has never come apart. Have I wondered if the internals are as they were promised? Yes I have. Could I be running an illegal motor and not know? I could be.

With all due respect Blake we are talking about an amain contender at a national level event. Jason got dq'd. Be it a true oversight then that is his own fault. but no matter why it happened it happened. I'm sure he will be more observant in the future. But with that said.....to not to tear it down and at least check with the 3hr + between runs once qualifying started seems a little Odd. He had the time had the chances and in the end he suffered for it. I do find it odd that the tech was so bad to allow it to make it to main time to finally put a foot down and start doing their job. Poor management of tech is also to blame.

Jason is a nice guy and his 3 gear transmission was lovely done and it's a shame it happened. Best luck to him next year.

they were "spot" checking before the mains. I never heard it said that the podium would be tore down. But that is what they did. If you podiumed, your motor was tore down. The ST 17.5 class was the FIRST spec class Amain, and Jason "could" have been caught off guard. As they had not yet done a spec class tear down on main day. But....there were 2 races in between hit st and sct races. I dont know when he found out her failed tech, but Ron should have had time to check and drop a new motor in his SCT. Maybe there was not enough time. I find is hard to believe that only his heavy 17.5 trucks had illegal rotors. Since they need that torque more than a buggy.

Lastly, I assure you he was not the only one cheating. He was just one that got caught. I saw many cars/truck that were stupid fast in the qualifiers, but come the mains they seemed to lose a few steps. I could assume they saw people getting checked and DQd and made their cars/truck legal.

I don't know Mr Dias, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that this issue was an oversight and not done intentionally. Wildcat, hope you had fun brother. I had some things that came up at the last minute that prevented me from attending. I was bummed, but as my little boy said, "daddy, there's always next year ". Hope to see you then buddy.
