Temps - Correct Gear Ratio and Timing?

Temps - Correct Gear Ratio and Timing?
I am chasing down an annoying persistent temp issue on the motor in my 8th scale buggy. Drivetrain is nice and free etc, it's something in my electrics setup. I have been going lower and lower on timing and punch (I use a hacker, basically same as hobbywing) but if anything temps are getting worse!
So a couple of questions:
What is a good final drive ratio for a 2100kv motor in 8th scale 4s? I am running around 11.5
Can timing go TOO low, and start driving temps up? Wondering if I should go from 0 to about 15 degree's?

I am running an RB Ebuggy. The only car related thing I can see is I am having to run shims under the motor mounts to get the motor to fit, which could be affecting heat dissipation!?
Re. Timing, I am running 15 degree's less than "standard" right now!

So what is your temps like on the ESC and motor? Is it shutting down?
Generally I didn't think timing is needed for 1/8th scale motors, should be enough speed and torque w/proper gearing for even the largest track, no?
And has this hacker combo temped high from day one? What about the previous combo?

Not shutting down, esc is fine, around 130-140 tops. Motor is coming off at about 190...which to mean seems too hot.
I had temp issues with other combo's but had worse gearing then too...
Only thing to stay low on temps was a reedy motor!
Also, one of my lunch or timing is now so low it struggles to have any acceleration at all until it gets to about 10mph when it suddenly comes to life!?

If temps have gotten very hot on more than a few occasions, then your rotor's magnet strength could be weakened, which will cause the motor to run hot unless you set it up very conservativly. If you're confident the motor is good, dial down your current limiter on the speed control if it has one. Dial it down a lot, like down to 70%. You will likely not notice any difference in power to the wheels but it should reduce temps.
