I notice alot of 1/8 Ebuggies mount their esc's on a small raised platform so not to shock the esc on chassis slaps etc.

I have a hyper sse and the esc tray is high. I want to mount the esc on the chassis but dont want to rick damaging it. i thought about mounting it on several layers of double sided tape.

any ideas or suggestions?

The Kyosho gel tape works great. I just found that once a little dirt gets into one of the edges the tape starts to peel away. I started using 3m dbl sided tape on the top and bottom of the gel and I have not had any come loose since. It also is giving it 2 more layers of absorbtion.

3m clear very high bond tape works well too, and is basically just a sheet of very pliable plastic close to that of super sticky rc tires that is super sticky on both sides.

Available in the office section of Meijers, Walmart, etc.

well, from my experience, i never had much luck with taping my esc's directly on the chassis or on a plastic surface. I use 150amp esc that are heavier.

This only method I found is using a better surface like carbon fiber or a copper plate ( electronic layout)

For example i build this for my hyper 9e : tape sticks good on carbon fiber

In my TLR 8ight E 3.0, the esc is mounted directly on the chassis plate.

I have smoked two esc's because i had only mounted the esc with a single thin layer of self adhesive tape (as supplied with the kit). The shocks and hard landings just broke down the esc's internally and they short circuited.

I do now use the same tape, but I put 3 or 4 layers to give the esc a 4 mm layer of shock protection.

If you are using a Castle monster or Rx8 , both can mount with screws ( the castle using a mount ). I use a piece of memory foam between the esc and the chassis with slightly longer screws. I have had bad luck with the cheap tape. The 3m clear or kyosho tape is the only way to go if you have to tape. I have been happiest with the RX8 and the screw and foam arrangement.

I probably shouldn't comment on this subject, because I'm pretty jaded. Let me just say that you can prolong the china doll fragile life of the junk 8th scale ESC's by using two layers of servo tape.

I'm not bitter though.

My personal opinion is all the concern around ESC mounting is hog wash. That Kyosho tape is to reduce vibrations making it to a gyro in heli's, not to pad hard landings. I seriously doubt that it does much when someone lands flat in a 1/8th scale off a 6 ft jump. Any stories of ESC's lasting longer after applying it is probably pure luck (again my opinion).

I personally use 1 layer of the 20 lb 3M tape from Walmart and run a line of shoe goo along one edge of the ESC for a little extra protection against coming loose. Shoe goo is really not needed but just a habit I got into when running crappier servo tape.

hog wash or not i rather not take the risk. I would leave the esc where it is but it gets in the way of bodies and not to mention a higher cg.

Sorta off topic, but if you're jaded by fragile 1/8th esc's, you owe it to yourself to try the Viper VTX8. At AMS 2 weekends ago, I was trying a couple different esc mounts that weren't working. The esc was loose and flopping around for what seemed like the bulk of my time there. Finally got something that worked, but not before I had to switch out the fan/shroud from my SC I wasn't running.

On my semi-proto, the esc has to sit over the edge of the side guard. So I was trying servo tape on foam to space it up on the chassis to get it level, and apparently there isn't a foam that just won't shed the top layer servo tape attaches to. I ended up using a divider from a parts bin that fit. That way the esc sits on a layer of tape, on a layer plastic, on another tape layer, so its all cushy now.
