Default is box stock slash racing still popular?

I've been out of the rc scene for a while and want to get back into it on a budget and remembered box stock 2wd slash racing was popular. has this changed any or is it still a pretty popular thing?

I would suggest to call your local track and ask. Out of 50 states in the good ol USA you'll get way to many different answers

All depends on what you're going to use it for. Banging around a local park or up and down the street, it's a pretty durable trouble free truck. Parts support is available almost everywhere, not most peoples for racing but still works pretty well.

If you plan on doing more racing, may want to look into a Losi or Team Associated. both company's offer ready to run box stock trucks just like a slash.....but will be more competitive out of the box with minor tuning and the correct tires.

If your leaning more towards racing, check out your local track on race night, talk to some people and get a feel for what everyone is running in your area. If you just want to jump stuff and rip around you cant go wrong with a Slash.

Not recently. There are quite a few issues why spec racing doesn't have staying power. Those have been hammered to death in other threads.

Honestly, as long as the local track(s) aren't very rough on tires. Mod SC or buggy can be the most cost effective bet.

Whether true or not, there is always the issue with having to have the "latest and greatest" motor and battery in 17.5. With mod, you don't have that issue as long as you don't overheat and kill your motor you should be able to get a couple of seasons out of it.

That might sound expensive, but keep in mind in brushed motor racing you have to have a fresher motor to stay competitive and once you start going through 12t Titans the cost in that regard can add up as well.
