I have several, but they are pretty pricey. I have 3D Studio MAX 5, which is great for designing stuff for computer games, then I have AutoDesk Inventor, which is perfect for creating concept pieces and 3D renderings of specific parts, then there is AutoDesk Mechanical Desktop, which is pretty good for 2D stuff. I also think have a copy of AutoCAD Architectural around here somewhere, but I'm not sure. The last one I have I believe is called CAD 2000. The licenses for these are pretty expensive, and I'm afraid I don't have a program to suit your specific needs. These will get you by, but I would have to get more detail on what you want before I can make a specific reccomendation.

I was a Deisgn Engineer for 13 years and have used many different CAD programs before getting out of that industry. My choice would be Autodesk Inventor, I used that since its first version and still use it. And yes he is right $$$$, the next layout for my track will be done in Inventor.

My god, man. Talk about overkill. I have run most of those programs, and for the most part, they are all good programs... for doing track layout, a bit much... Maybe for designing the entire facility you'd want one with that kind of horsepower. You can almost get by with a technical drawing or any freeware cad programs. There are even some shareware that are cheap like $20 - $50 that the author is only looking for some compensation for sitting in front of their monitor... Nicest thing is that they usually respond to bugs that you report, because that is their baby. I would do a cad program search on a site like www.downloads.com, or even cnet.com.

Tres, exactly what I was trying to think of... Programs like Visio allow you to create blocks that you could re-use and just copy them all over the place, allowing the operator to save time in creating layouts...
