hobby king 4s 25 dollar packs any good
ive got 2 packs comming of the hk 5000 20 c 4s packs they were 22.59 each did i just waste money . will be going in a mbx7 with a rx8 and 2050 motor.

y so cheap then are the other packs that much better u guys all make run time with them we run 10 min mains 6 min quals

Yea, those lipo's you chose might be a problem. The RX8 is rated at over 200A and I dont think they will have the supply to power your buggy under load especially when racing.
There a specific reason you chose the cheapest 4S lipo's when you have obviously spent a good dollar on everything else?

For the price they are great, I have run them for some time, I had one fail and replaced it with a "better named" battery.
Once I tried the new battery I must admit I got rid of the other Hobby King ones.
There was no comparison in power, the " better named" battery was far far more powerful.
That said if running in 8th buggy you have more power than you need, so there fine for a cheap start.
Truggy I really noticed the more power of the other battery.
I run RX8 gen 2 and never had any issues with the Hobby King battery's.
Once I tried the new battery I must admit I got rid of the other Hobby King ones.

Just run them till they fail, should last a good season or two tho, I even did ten minute mains sometimes with no issues.

I have used 4500mah, 25c packs for a few years with zero trouble.

While numbers usually don't lie, in real world situations the equations become rather inconsequential. The packs might not be as punchy as some other higher quality packs, and probably have a higher IR than other "better" more expensive packs. That being said, they will have plenty of power to push the car around, and will be just fine to use. You will probably want to upgrade to a better battery later though.

I've used those packs in every application from 1,750-2,650kv buggy/truggy/monster truck applications and NEVER once had one fail or underperform. I've ran with all the big name high C rated packs on the tracks. I've ran with and outran people using the expensive high C packs and Tekin motors etc... And yes I've used just about every kind of packs, esc, and motor combo out there. There is some variance in all of them but not enough for me to pay such a big difference in price. I will continue kicking butt with what works for me. As always gear for best performance and temp and rock on my friend...

The current a speed control is rated to pass has nothing to do with how much the battery will or won't supply. 20c is fine. 20c x 5a = 100a @ 14v = 1400 watts(!). Most 1/8 motors won't produce more than 1000w.

That being said, dependent on gearing and the size of his track, will/can this motor not draw 100A more or less? To recommend a lipo that has a 100A discharge doesn't leave much room for error. If bashing, sure, take a chance. But for racing, IMO, I think a higher discharge lipo would get you on the safe side.
I myself am a HUGE fan of Turnigy lipo's, Nano-techs is pretty well all I run. Excellent value, low IR and good punch.
For 1/8 scale tho, I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 125A discharge. But thats just me.

now that you got them, be sure to adjust your esc to the highest cut off possible, don't let the lipo fully charged or fully discharged more than a day and always quickly put them on storage ( 3.85 / 3.80 v per cell )
