LightWeight Losi 3.0E? have you done it?
 
HEy all, so im selling all my nitro gear to go into 1/8 electric buggy, im sold on the Losi 3.0e right now, but just wondering what peoples opinions were on a lightweight. i.e. running a 4000kv+ SCT combo on 2s rather than a full 1/8 setup on 4s. saving weight on a motor and battery (2s vs 4s packs and 1/8 motor vs short course 550 motor)

so basically

2s 4x4 SCT combo vs 1/8 combo on 4s.

have you done or even run it currently? i am aware MIP make a conversion for the SCTE and you run a SC combo in that, so was thinking it would be effectively be the same?

I would run a T8i 1350kv in 5s or 6s with a small lipo in your case.

2S is not suited for 1/8 or 4x4 SCT. It will work but your electronics will have to handle a very high amperage with more heat and less efficiency.

I tried from 2S up to 6S in a lightweight buggy and nothing is more efficient than a high voltage setup. There are lightweight 5s and 6s batteries but few people know about them. To give you an example I'm using a 5S 2200mah (297g) right now with a T8 1400kv and get 14 minutes runtime on a medium track.

If your deadest on the brand losi you may be better off getting a losi scte and MIP super light buggy kit, alternatively you can get a similar kit off Tekno using the Sct410and Tekno superlight kit, this way you could use a lightweight setup with 2s-6s of your choice.

Depending on your track size and main lengths 2s x 4000Kv maybe over taxed.

I'm running dual 2s shorties packs and a Tekin 1600kv T8i motor. This set up seems to be the best of both worlds light weight without thermalling or puffing cells.

That MIP converted scte weighs a bit less than the E buggy roller . Its still underpowered on the 2s system. My research on this lead me to the realization that all the folks that seemed to be really happy with their super lite are running a 2s super lite against other 2s super lite buggies, Or running 4s systems against full on E buggies. But Running a 2s superlite against 4s E buggies is going to be tough unless the track is microscopic. I spent a month on this , looking , guessing , asking , and doing the math. I bought a E buggy.

If this post was an RC kit it would be dialed box stock. :nod:

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like I might just go with a proper 1/8 setup, our track is pretty big. Video in the link below is when the track rebuild was first comepleted still a bit rough and not my car or me driving.

Yeah that looks like the go now, looking at the hobbywing 2200 combo, I can get it local easy. But. I can also get hold of an Orion 2050(?) combo local as well... Opinions?

I could explain why in many paragraphs and test reports blablabla but I'm just too lazy right now :D. But to sum it up: it's one of the smoothest and best bang for the buck association you could get. Definitely no need for more than 1800-1900kv on this track, actually it's quite rare to need more

in 4S it's a bit short in rpms

T8i 1350kv in 5S is better IMO, similar rpm as a 1700kv in 4s but smoother and more efficient

I'm running the T8i 1350kv on many outdoor tracks locally (mostly 6S though) because they are medium to small size and it's the best motor I tried in these conditions. By far.

Gear up. I own both 1950kv and 1600kv T8i's, the 1600 is less gearing sensitive compared to the 1950kv which seems to run hotter all the time. Over the last 6 years, I've owned every tekin T8 buggy motor (1350-2650kv), the 1700kv used to be my favorite before the release of the T8i series. I've recently downsized and only kept the 1900kv T8 as a back up, while the 1600kv t8i is my primary motor. I ran the 1600kv at the ROAR Electric Nationals at Gulf coast raceway which is 90' x 170' and last weekend at my local track (100' x 150'). I had no problems with top end speed or thermalling during 10 minute mains.
