Default can a helical diff be fliped

can a helical pinion have the ring gear diff flipped to change rotation to prevent from having to run elec motors backwards .

this is on a RB eone R and it seems motors are a bit pickey about being ran backwards on a sensord motor .

so I was thinking just flip the diffs . ugg lets just say im a bit frustrated

if you think about it a little it should work fine. (think like its just rotating the diff around the pinion, so teeth mesh doesn't change, but rotation does)

it might not even be the motor that is at fault. those spiral cut diffs only like to rotate one way relative to the pinion, otherwise the teeth tend to bind up a bit.

flipping should work fine though

Technically they shouldn't be , but in some real vehicles they run the same ring and pinion gear set front and rear. ( land rover discovery for example). And I'm not familiar with the particular car you inquiring about . but if the front and rear bevel gear set are the same part #'s ( very likely) they are already running one diff in a compromised fashion.

If you are running sensored, you have to change motor direction using the esc software. You can't just swap two leads like you can on non-sensored motors. Make sure you have it wired A-A, B-B, C-C and try it again.

well I got the motor back.

I flipped the diffs to run the motor in forward had to grind the front chasiss to clear diff gear .(the reverse still had the same problem)

the good news is the RB e one r ran 2 sec behind tq one of the 2 fastest things at the track for the day and had no problems with the buggy .

I ran at 65 punch anything higher I ran slower lap times .

It felt slow but lap times don't lie was really easy to drive .

so this was the first indoor run and it was off the charts good .

looking forward to going to Batavia in ohio next week for another run

ps I have a back up tekin power system, I don't have time to rma the viper till I get back, plus its all working very good
