Default short course questions

Hey guys I have a few questions.. I saw on tower hobbies that the desc410s are down in price. So I'm looking to get one soon... My question is is regarding electronics.. I'm looking for a good brushless set up that will be good everywhere... I'm a nitro guy so I'm clueless on electrics... I want something kinda overpowered I guess because I can run it anywhere and know I have enough if not more to get the job done... I know its prolly overkill but I'd rather have too much and use throttle control then not enough and get blown away... Not really a racer ATM but looking to race in the near future so tuning options need to be there.. I'mgonna be running 2s wondering if u guys can point me on where to go and why... I'd like to stay away from cheap combos.. I'm familiar with teken castle speed passion.. I'd just like to know what kvs and other things to look for and why...

Take a look at the Viper systems. I am running their VTX10R. This ESC will handle motors down to 4.5 turns which would be crazy fast. I'd say look at motors around 7 - 10 turn if you're wanting power/speed. If you're looking to race, then your motor selection would depend on what class you want to race.

If you are wanting a smoother power delivery definately go with a sensored system. Some sensored systems also allow for motor over temp protection (Viper does).

Viper has a great warranty and thier customer service seems top notch. They have a couple guys that help out folks on the fourm all the time.

4wd SCT, I recommend a Hobbywing SCT Pro ESC and Hobbywing 3656sd 4000kv motor.

I have a DESC410 Pro and am running a RX8 with a 4 turn thunder power. It is wicked fast but very drivable. I rarely hit top speed, but knowing that I can pass anyone on a straight away is nice. As long as I can slow it down for the turn after the straight away!

And what does kvs mean... What is the difference performance wise between a 2000kv and a 4000kv set up..

Tekin also makes hd motors which are bigger 4pole motors. Which has a lot more torque and seems like a little less top speed.

If your gonna race a sensored setup is better the brakes and accel are smoother.

So far the reviews on the tekin are great... The down fall is the price.. They are priced high.. Tho I know they are worth it.. My dad runs a rx8 combo in this erevo... Is there any systems out there compareable to the tekin.. Also water proof is a plus.. Cus well sometimes I feel the need to hit a puddle or two

You're looking at a kit to build.?
I noticed a lot of short course deals lately, must be the end of the trend. lol
Check out www.main.com

From what I've learned it is where the power curve is. 2000 would be more bottom end, 4000+ would be more top end peak power. (I usually see lower numbers on 4WD)

IMO 4wd SCT's need an eighth scale ESC. Tekin RX8 or Viper VTX8 (http://viper-rc.com/vtx8.php) both fit the bill. I know the Viper is 'weather proof', don't know about the Tekin. Alot of people swear by the Hobbywing stuff, but I'd be cautious about them. If you wanted a place to try and save some $$, get a Hobbywing (or other import brand) motor.
