In a 4x4 Short course you are probably going to want to look at 8th scale ESC paired with a motor designed for a 4x4 SCT. If you are planning on running 2s lipo batteries, you will probably want something in the 4000kv range. 4x4 SCT is also battery hungry so make sure you are using a pack with a decent amount of capacity and discharge capability.
The motors down in the 1700-2200kv range are typically used for 8th scale buggy/truggy and will run on 4s batteries instead of the 2s batteries most people use in 4x4 SCT. I would probably avoid putting one of these in a 4x4 SCT as they are not normally designed to handle the amount of power the 8th scale motors will put out.

Anyone know of a good combo that they sell... Cus I'd prefer to get a matched set up as opposed to a separate motor and esc

You mentioned you were looking into the Durango DESC410. That chassis is more 1/10 based using saddle pack batteries(2 cell only fit) so you need a 4.5 or 5.5 550 can or 4000kv-4600kv motor. Personally, I think a Losi would better fit your needs for the typical bash with possible racing over the Durango, especially since the Losi will do better on an 1/8 sized track. I have owned a Losi and currently own a DESC410. The Durango is definitely more 1/10 and needs to be treated more like a 1/10 vehicle than the Losi. There aren't many packages combos because the consumer typically chooses a 1/8 esc with a 1/10 motor. Your much better off choosing the same brand 1/8 esc and 1/10 motor.

I run a Tekin RX8 and Pro4 4300HD in my SCTE. I love the setup. All the power you will ever need.
Go with a sensored system (RX8 / Pro4 4xxx), you wont regret it. Sensorless tend to "cog" when you pull the giggle trigger.
KV = RPM per volt basically. So a 4000KV motor will turn 29600 RPM on a 2s (7.4v). The higher the KV is like a lower turn motor. For SC, youll want to stay about 4000 and up. I have run 3300, 3500, 3800, 4000, 4600 and 4300HD (550 can size) in my truck. Im currently running the 4300HD and love it.
Hope the info helps!

Thanks for the tips.. Iawant a losi badly but its outta my price range for now... The Durango's are supper cheap.. I can get one for 160 nib on either tower or a main... I've been looking for a losi but they are out of my price range.. I was originally looking for a new radio but after seeing the deal on a main and tower I figured wtf may as well get a new ride if I can lol

Id stay with Tekin. Best ESC and motor. The Viper system is ok at best. 4x4SC tends to be harder on the electronics than any other class. If your sensor wire goes bad during a race, the Viper stops working, while the Tekin just switches to sensorless mode automatically. I would suggest looking at another chassis as well. The reason the Durango is so cheap is that they don't sell anymore. Theres a good chance they will be discontinued soon.

So stay away fro. The Durango huh... OK I see your point... Guess that may put me out for a while... Can anyone tell me the difference between the losi 1.0 scte and the 2.0.. Can I upgrade the 1.0 to the 2.0 or is it like the buggy's where there isn't a 3.0 conversion.. That I'm aware of at least

I run hobbywing sct pro in my tekno paired with a tenshock 4600 kv motor. Both run cooler than the tekin setups that some of the other pro 4 drivers run. A combo I recently saw that is very fast and runs at temps that were more comfortable to me was a tekin rx8 esc with hobbywing motor. I can't justify the tekin price really. My sct pro has been flawless for over a year. Plus for 90 bucks I'd have to say its the best value of the more popular brands. That's just my opinion though. Buy what you are comfortable with.

Yeah I was looking at hobbywing... There stuff looks good and is well priced.. But now I'm hearing not to go with the Durango because there gonna stop making them... Idk the truth to that statement or not.. But I don't wanna get a kit that will not have support.. Its bad enough my lhs doesn't stock much in the non traxxas area and I have to wait for parts.. Having to find parts for a discontinued model is even worse.. Ordering parts for my JQ takes a bit... And since I'm not the best or most sane driver in the world I end up with a decent repair list week in and out... So my down time is pretty big at times... Which is why I was thinking of going with the short course cus they are from what I've seen pretty effin indestructible..

Hobbywing are awesome. Buddy and I both have Mip losi scte and my Hobbywing scte will keep up with his Tekin scte with no problem. Matter of fact ...you would never know if I didn't tell ya. Runs cooler as well.
I'm still have my 1st hobbywing sct pro 120a and my buddy went through 3 Tekin rx8...nuff said!

Invest in what will last...Tekin RX8 Gen 2 ESC ...Any of the two Tekin motors fit for 4wd ( 4600 or 4300 HD.) ...The 550(size) can 4300 HD has more torque and runs cooler with a good amount of top end...The Trinity motors (Revtech 4800 / Zombie 4850) are evil fast motors but keep your eye on the temps. They run a little hot. Definitely invest and go with the RX8 Gen 2 ESC...It's very strong, and Tekin has a helluva support team. Make sure to get good quality high capacity batteries that can handle the load, and give you good run times. When racing, you don't want a 9 minute battery if you're racing in a 10 minute Main. ;-)

Go with the tekin rx8 gen2/pro4 4600, there crazy fast, I had one in my Durango and there great, I doubt they will discontinue the SCT, they probably just have a new v3 coming out and that's the reason for the price drop, there a great truck but are a little more fragile then the current 1/8 based SCT, b save some money on the truck and get the good motor combo, then as you get more experience and money you can upgrade the chassis, also look at the new square pack batteries, I know the SMC square fits a Durango SCT and with good capacity of 5800mah and no jumper wire.
Cheers
