maybe he just painted them, blue on the rear, no purpose racing super duper hard

Well the 2wd title has been won by an American 6 of the 10 times, and a European driver has never won it. 4wd Americans have had less success, only winning 3 of the previous 10 titles (with Cavalieri's title this year making it 4)

The Blue springs on the rear of Hodapp's car are actually Pink Rears that Losi had painted Blue for the Original Brian Kinwald Edition car.

People use them now because they look way better on your car that the femenine pink ones.

Losi still has a box of them and the drivers all have them. Some are not aloud to use them like the Paid Factory guys. But most all the others either paint all their springs the same color like Kinwald or run stock ones so they look more Factory.

Painting your springs is the easiest way to screw with your competitors when they are trying to figure out your set up.

Actually in 4whl 5 of 11 were American

85 Losi Jr
91 Cliff Lett
95 Mark P
03 Ryan C
05 Ryan C

IN 2whl 7 of 10 so far

85 Jay H
87 Joel J
93 Kinwald
95 Francis
97 Kinwald
01 Francis
03 Easton

The others were

2whl
89,91,99 Masami

4whl
87, 89, 93, 97 Masami
99, 01 Jukka

I think that is right. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

In '85, the classes were structured differently. Jay Halsey won Stock and Gil Losi, Jr. won Modified. Halsey won stock with an RC-10, Losi won Modified with a Yokomo, I think Halsey finished 2nd with an RC-10 4wd conversion.

One of the other little trivia tidbits I came up with was that Cavalieri was only the 3rd driver in offroad world champs history to defend his title. Masami did in 4wd (87, 89) and 2wd (89, 91), and Jukka Steenari in 4wd (99, 2001)

the United States is the only country to sweep both classes on home soil (turned the trick twice in 1985 and 2003)
Masami is the only driver to have won multiple titles in both classes (4 titles in 4wd, 3 in 2wd)

WOW!

Just got to watch the videos of the mains on Orion's website...

I guess just like the old saying goes:

"I'd rather be lucky than good any day"

Pretty sorry state of affairs if you ask me... *shrug*

That track looks just like my old hometrack for offroad. Man I miss that place. It is also a perfect example of why 4wd will never be popular in the US and trucks will. That track is typical of club racks all over the US and look how hard it was for the best drivers in the world to drive them.

I think It says on the Mini-zone website that some of the drivers are only running 5 cell packs becasue of the traction. But I cant translate french very well so I could be wrong.

What surprised me when watching the vids was just how little throttle control some of the guys had out of turns

I lost count of the number of times one of the drivers would get really loose coming out of the tight turns only to have the smoother driver blast past them!

It will be interesting to see how they cope with 2wd.

It translates to 5 cell packs with hot motors or if you can find good ones 17D or 18D with 6 cells.

I just watched A1. That track looks really tough to drive. The main thing is it looks really inconsistent.

Also, does anyone else think that Hara's Durrango looks like the biggest pain in the butt to work on?
