Have you tried turning down the timing on the can?
Also on a side note its not good for the motor to free rev it for very long and you can actually see higher temps if held at high rpm.

I have the timing at the 0 mark on the can. Running negative timing would start to generate heat again. I dont have to free spin it long at all before it heats up, and I wasnt anywhere near full throttle.

Zero on the can is probably still 20° to 30° of timing, can't hurt to try it. Your temp gauge will tell you if you're going in the right direction.
If it is getting hot after a few throttle pulls on the bench then something else is probably going on.
I just mentioned not to hold full throttle for too long because I have seen a few people that didn't know any better so I thought I would throw it out there.

My ESC is in the 120-130 range. I will try messing with the can timing somemore and see if I can figure something out. I really need to figure out whats going on cause I would really like to run this thing. I was running a fan on it to start with but for some reason the thing stopped working for me so I have a new one on the way.

I have no Idea what to do at this point. I don't have any timing added in esc or on the motor. When I put my tekin motor back in my motor temps drop right back down, so I know its not binding in my drivetrain.

Does anyone know of a phone number to call them? I cant find one anywhere on their website.

Also, have you checked the bearings?

Do you know if this is a first batch motor?

Im not sure how you can tell if it was a first batch motor. I have had it for about a month and got it from stormer hobbies, so I have no idea. I have checked out the bearings and they seem to be in great shape. One thing I did notice is that my rotor has four flat spots on it. I am not sure if it is normal or not because this is the first trinity motor I have had of this style and dont have anything to compare it to. But with my other that I have taken a part you could roll the rotor on a table no problem. This motor has four visible flat spots on it.

Flat spots are normal. The rotor has 4 magnets glued to it.

I think there were problems on some early motors, mostly rotors. Should be all good on thenthenewer motors.

And BTW, when the motor heats up quick, its an internal short. Bad stator, and it will smoke ESC.

That must be what is wrong with mine. I couldn't ever get anyone to reply to my messages or call me so I guess I just wasted the money on this one.

maybe the 4000kv option they have would be better?

Funny, got into a nice "discussion" with someone on a more dedicated rc short course board over the term "545".

he is pretty adamant that anything bigger than a 540 is a 550 apparently even though the term "545" is how we call these motors that are inbetween a 540 and 550.

Then again, he likes to argue that up is down, left is right, etc.
