All about Tires!

This thread was created as a place to talk all about tires and everything that goes with them. Inserts, Sauce, Compounds, Mounting techniques, belting, balancing, rims, tire warmers, and more!

Let's start by talking about belting. Has anyone done this for Off road tires? I think a few loops of kevlar and a little bit of glue could help quite a bit. It always seems like my car bounces a bit down the straightaway and I think it's mostly due to the tires ballooning.

Here's a video that got me thinking:

Cheers!

I have heard of people putting a strip of duct tape around the inside part of the tire (same place as in vid) but i think it can only work for short coures for some reason... I have never tried and see no need to try it

my favorite kind of tire are the round black ones

Electrical tape

To keep from traction rolling and promote pushing on sweepers some electrical tape can be a quick fix on the outside rib of the front tires before making a big setup change. Does not help ballooning. Takes the snap out of a 2wd sc10. Maybe some heavy braid fishing line wrapped around. Going to practice tommarow will throw some in the box.

+1 on this.....it works for me

belting tires

I run one layer of gorilla tape (high quality duct/duck tape) inside the tire for 1/8 bug and trug. Does not add hardly any weight, and pretty much prevents ballooning. Vent tire as normal, punch through after taping.

I have not seen any ill effects, tires seem to last longer and wear even. Feels a little more "precise" on high grip surfaces.

I clean inside really well beforehand, then flip tire inside out and roll it on a strip of tape. Press flat and done.

If diffs are tuned for use with balloons, may need to adjust fluid. ;)

We did this back in the day alot for nitro stadium truck but the tires balloned alot more and the tracks were rougher. I've don't really see the need anymore.

Method of application ????

IE: spray on, brush in? Soak in ziplock?

13Maschine 02-04-2014 08:56 PM

I'm inclined to try some kevlar thread and glue. Suggestions for gluing the kevlar thread to the inside of the tire? Will shoe goo hold? CA would be too hard. I've also seen the duct tape ideas and this seems to work as well although I am afraid of the weight and balance….

I know some of you don't see the need but I will post my results and I also plan to shoot some video with my go pro to show the difference….Thanks for the input regardless. Please also give your thoughts on why you don't see the need. :)

+1 for Simple Green!!! Great on tires and awesome for cleaning almost anything else. Been using it for years. I usually clean with Simple Green and a brush and then I will sauce with WD40 or Sticky Kicks. Both seem pretty good. Need more track time to give more details.

Cheers!

@ 13maschine Who are you?? How often are you at OCRC??

13Maschine 02-05-2014 05:07 PM

SC10Racer96: My name is Dave, and my avatar picture is real. I'm down at OCRC about once a month sometimes two. Lemme know when you are there and I'll come over and say hello :)

Can we get some comments going about people's favorite sauce? My favorites right now are sticky kicks blue and WD40. WD40 seems to work best on my slicks at SCVRC, but also works on my treaded tires. I haven't had a chance to really try it at OCRC. I usually clean with Simple green then I sauce.
