Default Crowd Sourced Event Calendar thread feeler??

I saw a "crowd-sourced" event calendar thread lately and thought it would be a good idea.

I don't see anything like that for the electric off-road forum and was wondering if there would be any interest in such a thing?

It would be pretty simple. The first post in the thread would be a calendar that would be maintained and updated with events as people post them in the thread, and then deleted as each date passed.

Would have to set some kind of criteria for these events. It would be ridiculous to post weekly club racing or things like that.

I think it would be a great way for people to decide what races they were going to attend/travel to.

I'd be willing to maintain the calendar if we could make this idea go and the moderators approve.

It's a tough thing. Depending on what part of the country you live in there can be 1 or 2 special events every 3 months, or every other weekend is some special event going on as is here in florida.

I don't see that being much of a problem. If formatted correctly, the calendar would support multiple events at multiple venues.

In my head, it looks something like this:

January 2014

10 XXXXX Race of Champions, Joe's Raceway, Peoria OH www.joesxxxxx.com
YYYYY Invitational, Fred's Raceplex, Tampa, FL www.fredsxxxxxx.com
11 XXXXX Race of Champions, Joe's Raceway, Peoria OH www.joesxxxxx.com
YYYYY Invitational, Fred's Raceplex, Tampa, FL www.fredsxxxxxx.com

17 XXXX Off-Road Shootout, Harry's Hobbyplex, Climax, VA www.harrysxxxx.com
18 XXXX Off-Road Shootout, Harry's Hobbyplex, Climax, VA www.harrysxxxx.com

or something similar

Also, rcsignup illustrates the need for crowd sourcing. Just off the top of my head, I saw 3 events that I know about that aren't on rcsignup. For whatever reason, maybe the promoters don't want to list it on there, or maybe they don't know about it.

For instance...can you find Cactus Classic on rcsignup?

Clearly there isn't the desire for something like this that I thought there would be.

Not saying your idea isn't a good one, but there's already a tool/site in place for this very purpose. So, use it.
