Default Lipo Battery Aged

Hi, would the internal resistance of the lipo battery gets higher when they get older? I recently notice my battery gets longer charging time for similar mah...? 7.4V 4000 mah battery pack.

Ususally one of the cells is getting worse sooner than the other, so the balancing phase at the end of the charge can take really long. It is a good warning to start looking for a replacement pack.

from what I understand, packs will last longer if you balance charge them.

What? you don't balance your lipos at all?? thats dangerous. No point getting a new pack until you can balance that one as well. Same thing will happen. Get a balance charger pronto.

Yes, as the pack IR goes up charge times get longer.

I know this is recommended advice. But I never balance my lipos and never have a problem. Have you tried it? I have experimented with lipo's. Balance charging from day 1 and not balance charging at all and really it does not make a difference in life or performance of the lipo. I will get hated on for saying this but it is truth.

Balancing is more of a concern if you run the battery deeper into discharge. With 1/10 racing we usually don't pull more than 1500mah out of a 4-5000 mah pack. I balanced a couple of my packs for the first time in over a year and they were perfectly balanced. The 4s packs I use for 1/8 require it more often since I use up more capacity in a 10 minute main.
