Thanks guys for the help, I was able to get two B6D's from tower for $210 ea + $60 credit. My son and I will both be building kits for the first time! One B5M FL I got was actually a B5M so it's being returned and the other is now for sale.

Hello! This thread is filled with so much information I probably forgot most of it. My 4 year old son is getting into rc cars and I thought I should learn and finally get myself a good car or truck.
I started wanting a SC truck, then the b4, and then a Losi. After comparing this that and the other thing I found this thread. I liked the look of the B5M and it became a contender. After reading the first 1300 pages on here I picked up a used B5M on fleabay. It arrived today, and I finally read the last 112 pages. I can not wait to pull it out and start to tinker tonight. Thanks for all of the info and convincing me to buy the B5M!

It's refreshing to read posts such as the last two about folks so pumped about the hobby and their cars I often talk to people that never seem happy with what they have, always chasing something they're never going to find. I thought about getting a B6D for the coming year, but instead my B5M is in pieces on the floor ready for some maintenance and a few changes. It'll be a fun year racing and running toy cars with my kids. I'm contemplating not even racing myself, just going full pit Dad and fill in marshal. We'll see how it goes. I've loved RC cars ever since I got to drive one in the mid-80's. I tell people they are toy cars, but they are also science, engineering, math, and communications as well. The cars and the hobby are what you make them

it really is nice to see posts about people enjoying this for what it is for most people, a hobby. i too started racing in the 80's, first car was a gold pan RC10. i have been in and out for the past few years, but hoping to come back again shortly.

just finished installing electronics... I’m going to remove the puck system for stock CVD’s and maybe get some aluminum rear hubs and I should be ready to race! Gearing called for 23/81 with a 8.5. Does that sound about right?

Edit; I put the sensor wire in after

I bought my B5M Lite used and realize now that all my arm mounts are made of aluminum except the rear one (D),that one is a heavier brass mount. How does this affect the cars handling?

Where can I find the original wing mount with screwholes instead of the one for bodyclips(91531)?

As far as I know; it doesn't exit.
You got to do it by yourself.

Battery placement; if I run indoor on carpet, should I have my battery in front(near esc) or in the back(near the motor)?

Try out both and tune for your liking. I personally preferred to run it closer to the ESC to get more weight forward on carpet. Dirt I liked it further rear.

it does 2 things. adds weight to the rear to "help" with traction but it also increases the polar moment of inertia. ie makes the car feel more sluggish when rotating (ie turning). So depending on your conditions and your needs as a driver it can help or hinder. To tone down the effect or compromise with your needs you could change the "D" block to alum or the stock plastic piece(there are limitations with the plastic one). Then change out to the "C" block to brass.
If you just want to make the car heavier over all I would consider brass battery plates this way the weight is centralized.

Just wondering for people running indoor carpet, do you put a lot of shock spacers inside the shocks to get the ride high down? Or what are people running to get a lower ride height?
