That guy on the shirt is really him. Have any of you seen the back of the shirt? Can't recall the exact wording, but it's something like "If Jesus came back as a RC car it'd be as a B5M".

new to 1/10 buggy, b5m lite kit - electronic selection
Hello All,
I apologize if I break any rules of posting on this forum and if this is repetitive.
I am new to posting on forums and in the RC scene, well I have 6 months under my remote driving at OCRC or IERC. I started off with a RC10B4.2 and love it for how I use it and drive it, at times (which isn't pro like at all I'm constantly flipping and doing donuts but my confidence is building) I feel it can be quite a bit slower than the other drivers out there so I move out the way.
I love this hobby so much that I purchased a B5M Factory Lite kit. I was pretty nervous putting it together, being that it was my first kit and all - luckily I found some great videos on YouTube and helpful information on RC forums where they help people like me out and the kit came out pretty nicely if I say so myself.
My question to keep this short is I need help in selecting my electronics I see and believe most pro driver or advance drivers putting 6.5 turns or 5.5 turn motors. I just don't know if that is going to be to much motor for me. Can you please help guide me in selecting some electronics that will work together (Servo, ESC, Motor, Receiver).. I was waiting for RCX to perhaps purchase all my electronics there, first time going to a RC expo... If I was ever to join a race what for armatures/beginners what motor type would I need to be under?
Thanks in advance!!

Do yourself a favor and buy a 17.5.

Is there a specific brand or motor esc combo you recommend for the 17.5 turn? Thanks again for all the help.

Max budget:
Reedy Black Box or Orion R10 Pro and Trinity D4/Reedy Mach 2
Low budget:
SMC RF 160/Orion R10 stock and turnigy trakstar/novak

Yes a 17.5 would be an excellent motor to start with. It will not have the brute power and speed of a mod so it will allow you to learn to drive at a reasonable pace. The B5M lite was pretty much designed for the stock class with a 17.5. Get the gearing right and just practice, practice, and practice.

You guys are awesome thanks for taking the time and helping me out. I'm gonna save my pennies and try to go with the reedy or Orion. I always hear you get what you pay for. Best of luck.. I know I'll be back here again.
I have an Orion 10.1 in one buggy and a Hobbywing 3.1 in another. They both feel fantastic in blinky. I wouldn't rule out the Hobbywing ESC. The Hobbywing motors aren't bad either, but I've had my best luck with the Team Powers 17.5. For me, its faster than my D4 1S and it runs cooler without using a fan (120 vs 158).
I want to add aluminum hexes to my car. Just to confirm the parts I need are:
1) Rear hex #91442
2) Front hex #91409
3) Front axle clamp #91408
That's it? Thanks

EDIT::: Just remembered, I think the clamp hexes come with the crosspins.

My choice combo, hw just stock, and the d4 1s short stack motor. Probably $150 for the combo, or there abouts.
And get a decent low profile servo. The savox SC1251MG is a good option. Then pickup a couple decent shorty packs, and your off racing!
