Hello , I had x ring for a while. They didn't leak at all until I rebuild the shocks and unfortunately "pinched" two of them when sealing the shocks back together. They are incredibly fragile to shearing. Front ones are still good, no leaks. Although the biggest improvement by far to my shocks was to use a bladder. Sometimes the leak people get with emulsion type shock is due to the fact that is not enough air in them.

I didn't bother to replace the x rings at the back for new ones at the moment.

6 months on my X rings without a drip of green slime. I am changing oil weekly, sometimes twice a weak depending on what track I attend.

I am going to assume you're building them incorrectly.

I haven't replaced shock seals for a couple seasons, but how could they be built incorrectly? The manual has the steps lined out pretty good from what I remember.

EDIT: Just had a look at the manual online. The only thing I could imagine is the X-rings are sticky and getting caught on the inside of the shock body and wrinkling or something when inserting them. Weird to hear about X-rings leaking.

I just remembered, the big bore shocks sometimes needed to be shimmed. Like a .10" shim to put a little more squeeze on the seals so they squish against the shock shaft a little more.

One trick I do is to push the shaft through the shock and build the seal, spacer, seal stack on the shaft BEFORE inerting into the shock cavity. The lets the seals float around a bit more and keeps any extra pressure off the seal as you insert the shaft so u dont catch an edge and tear the seal (Similar to dirt bikes)

Oh and always use a seal grease, I use race tech

This /\

Build my shocks like this since day one. Not a drop of oil at all.

My X-rings leaked too but I was attempting to use them with V1 big bores. I thought I had heard that there was a clearance difference between the B5 shocks and the V1 big bores from like the SC10 or B4.2. I could be wrong about that. With my V1 shocks, they leaked a bit right away and needed a very small amount of shimming for some extra squeeze of the rings. If people aren't using the right spacer or if AE has some variation in any of the three critical components that make up the shock cartridge there could be leaking.

Has anyone had issues with the Exotek wing mounts breaking wings easily? When you put the buttons on, there is overhang on the back of the mounts that come to a point. I have broken 2 wings at those points.

I just ground those points down so now they are flush with the buttons like the JConcepts ones.

The wing mounts work great and never had a problem with them breaking the wings.

I'll try a thicker spacer or a added shim. Thanks for the tip I'll let you guys know. But I build them like I have been and just started having problems with at least two shocks on every car I put them in (2 t4.2 and a b5).
