For my rear shocks, I changed from 2x1.6 with green springs and 30wt oil to 3x1.4 with the same spring and oil. Immediately, the car was looser in the rear. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but what is the reason why this happens? I am curious and just not sure the physics of what's going on here.

Ya there's got to be something else going on bc when myself and a friend of mine went to the 3x1.4s both our cars gained quite a bit of rear traction. So much so that when I go to the CRCRC Midwest Champs next week I am going back to a 2x1.6 bc the 3x1.4s will be to much for this track.

I have no idea what it could be but did you make another change other than the pistons that could be culprit?

I should have been more specific. Forward traction is still fine but side bite went down, especially in the sweepers, with the 3x1.4 in the rear shocks.

Flat or Tapered. If Tapered which side is tapered?

Still that doesn't make sense bc the 3x1.4s are close to the 2x1.7s which means your rear end should be softer which means more side bite and traction.

You sure you didn't make a rear roll center change too? And are you sure it's not your tires? Did you run the same tires as before you made the change?

If compression side is tapered it could potentially cause this. Other ideas are the shock isn't filled or bled improperly or inconsistently.

If you are getting loose in a sweeper I would look a the diff. it may be too loose and when the car rolls diffing out.

Everything was exactly the same on the car except for the change in the pistons. It's not like the car is bad with the rear being looser in corners. It's still good but I just wasn't expecting that to happen.

"Imbue have released their new RC10B5 adjustable aluminium axles, made from lightweight, high-strength aluminium and anodized blue for a truly factory look. Shedding more than 6 grams of rotating mass over the stock units, these axles were designed to allow quick and easy track width adjustments, without requiring the racer to carry multiple sets of axles. By simply rearranging the included spacers, racers can adjust each side in 1mm increments, 0mm (stock), +1mm and +2mm. Adjustments can even be made with the wheels still on the car. Fits both B5 and B5M models."

Looks nice

Thanks. I'm using the flat machined pistons all the way around. I do have 3X1.4 tapered as well, but have not tried them yet.

thats not necessarily true, if its a high bite track and the rear is too soft, its going to dump and lose side bite.

That is true to an extent like if the car was way to soft but even Cav ran 3x1.4s with a green rear spring on a high bite track... So idk I am at a loss for why that could be happening
