Default Vintage Guys, tell me what I've bought off Craigslist!

First post!

I just purchased this off Craigslist. The guy told me it was a mid 90s Kyosho Ultima but I have no idea. What I do know is that it has an aftermarket graphite chassis, Trinity Topaz 11 turn motor, and a Duratrax M5 ESC. Is it a buggy? Is it an outlaw truck? What's it all worth? Thanks!

Kyosho Nitro Rampage converted to electric. No idea what its worth but these were fairly common vehicles back in the day (basically a nitro gen1 ultima). Good luck.

Seriously, that's your question, what is it worth? Isn't it enough that is is an old rc car, and old rc cars are awesome.

Currently it is a bunch of jumbled parts, in fair-bad condition. Not worth much at all. I would give you 20 bucks for it, but I don't have a need for it.

Well, it is enough, but I'm new to the whole vintage thing! This is the stuff I grew up staring at in magazines but was too young or too broke to have any of it. I've got a Tmaxx that's mine, I bought this one because it was too good of a deal to pass up and my son is almost to the age where he could handle something on his own and he loves mine. It's got a small tool box with it that's full of small parts. Is it worth fixing or should I sell it as is and buy a used more modern truck?

Here's some more pics that may make it a little more valuable.....the Futaba stuff is brand new in the box.

Maybe to some old rc's are awesome. Not everyone feels that way though. I threw an old losi xxt in the trash because to me it was junk. He could be trying to turn a profit and he needs to know where to start price wise.

Should have given it to me! I would have payed you for shipping.

Flipping rc is not a good idea. That car will need a bunch of money put into it to be any good. People want them in perfect or near perfect factory condition.

Vintage RC is a moneypit.

They belong on shelves.

How much did you pay for this truck? I hope not much more than $20-$30.

It was that cheap!

I'll probably clean it and throw it up on the ole auction site. I can more than get my money back just on the electronics. I appreciate all the help with the identification!

If you paid anymore than free you paid way toooooooo much. Even if the radio was brand new its not worth really anything. It appears to be a old Futaba AM radio. Maybe 20+ plus years old im guessing.
I would not sink any money into it and just try to get back what you put in it,

A NIB futaba radio from the late 80s could go for a bit. You could get 50, or 150 bucks for it. Normally really old vintage RC chassis can go for a bit as well, but usually only in mint/un-run condition. A lot of this stuff looks like it's from the 90s, which has really really limited value, if any at all. Stuff from the 80s usually does much better. Batteries and chargers tend to be worthless, unless you have some red Sanyo SCR 1400s in NIP condition.

For example, I have a Goldpan RC10 that would go for about $700, and I have a JRX2 that would go for $1000 or more. BUT, you can get used Gold pans and JRX2s for $50-$75 in used but working condition. The price range is HUGE directly related to how close to "NIB" it is.

My point is the items shown are worth very little if anything to someone in the hobby, or someone looking to restore a RC product.

No point in getting in a debate my first day on this forum. I bought this really cheap with the radio alone going for more than I paid for the whole thing. I only gave $20 for it. It actually runs great, just tested it and its pretty fast! I'm unfamiliar with the vintage stuff but can rebuild a tmaxx in my sleep.

they're worth the fun of disassembling and discovering an unknown mechanic. (off course it's often the older the weirder).

Once cleaned up & reassembled, it's usually worthless. I keep my favorite ones on a shelf, other in boxes or trashed. Before trashing I usually try to trade it against another (worthless but funny looking) oldie.

enjoy !

What you have there is a hacked up original 1987 Kyosho Ultima...the very first Ultima. That is an aftermarket chassis with what looks to be a homebuilt aluminum brace. Also It looks like they moved the front shock tower in front of the shocks, instead of behind where it usually is. The front shocks are original, and the rears look to be aftermarket Kyosho Platinum Shocks.

If your curious as to what it looked like box stock, heres a couple pics of mine. Im in the process of rebuilding it...
