Default New AKA Evo 1/10 wheel

What are your thoughts? http://www.liverc.com/news/new_produ...uggy_wheel%21/

Im personally not liking the current wheel and tire scene. Brands are no longer compatible in the 1/8 market, now trickling down to 1/10. Proline has the VTR, Jcon has the elevated, and AKA has the Evo. Being modular between brands used to make everything so simple.

Why the vents on the wheels now?

All AKA rims I have have no vent in the rim and I just punch a hole in my tire.

I don't race 1/8 scale. Could somebody explain how the 1/8 scale tire mounting system works? I don't see why removing the outer bead (looks like that to me) is a big deal.

As in all things business...money will drive the market. If there's enough demand for it, it will grow and become a part of the sport.

If most people don't want to be tied to a certain wheel/tire system and don't buy it, it will go by the wayside.

If it turns out to be a performance advantage (or even a perceived performance advantage), then it will sell and sell well.

I don't know if it will be a performance or not.. but I think mounting 1:8 tires is much easier than the current 1:10 system.

Looks like it would be a lot easier to glue.

If you watch the video with Mark Pavidis debuting the tires/wheels, I think you'll see a difference...the wheels are larger diameter at the inside flange of the tire. The base mounting surface is the same as the outer dimension of the current wheel style.

The tires look to be the same outer diameter, so what does that give us? Shorter, stiffer sidewall.

I like the design, but I do not like the manufacturers going to proprietary wheels and tires. I like being able to mix and match rims/tires from different companies.

The same was said when the current 1/8 wheels came out, now they are the standard. I'm willing to bet that most other manufacturers follow suit in the next couple years, especially if there is a performance gain from the shorter sidewall.

Plus, Mark Pavidis said the wheel is stiffer. No more need for a separate stiffener piece.

I normally run AKA tires but I would not run a tire that locked me in to only one tire manufacturer. If other companies offer tires and wheels that would interchange then maybe. But not until then.
