Rubber Tire Cutting Question

Im not a noob, but I have never cut any of my off road tires. Now I am racing at a track were the hot set up for buggy is cut down 4wd tapper pins on the front. My question is, what is the correct and best way to cut the tires down to fit 2wd buggy front rims? Pics would be a major help if you have any. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to be running indoor during the winter at Long Island Raceway. But this also works great at R/C Madness.

I never told you that was the "hot" setup, I told you thats what I prefer, Pink 7206s are the "hot" tire, everyone else uses those, except for a select few that run 02s, 04s, 4wd tapers, and rear tapers with the middle cut out. Run 06's first and see how you like them, If you don't want to mount them up, come to me and I'll let you use a set for the day, I don't use them anyway.

Nick,

I undersood. I still wanted to get some good info on cutting them down. I want to have a set ready to try when I go down to LIR to practice. This is also what many racers at Madness have been trying with good success. Please don't think that I'm putting words in your mouth, I'm just in search of some info. I do appreciate all the help you have passed on to me and will let you know when I'll be heading down.

Oh, ok. I guess I'll have to try that at Madness then. I need to start somewhere on tires for the Nats. I was there for the opener and each run I was flying blind on tires, Ifmars on the rear and 04s with the inner-outer rib cut off. I also have a set of red 2wd tapers for front I used to run before I switched to the 4wd front rim also. They steered pretty good, but the narrower front end the 4wd rim givs you it smooths it out alot.

So you converted to 4wd front rims on your losi? That's something I didn't think about. What parts did you need to do it? I may try to do it to my B4.

For Madness they are running red tapers in the rear and cut down tapers in the front. They are also using M3 holeshots rear and cut down 4wd front holeshots. Hope this helps. I won't be racing at the NAts but I will stop by and catch some racing during the weekend. If your going to be there I'll try to catch up with you.

I didn't have to buy anything, as I already had 4wd tires from my xxx-4, You move the axle spacers to the outside making it wide, then put the rim on and use a washer behind the nut, only thing is, you have to dremel the out of the arm for it to work, and you basically loose the short arm hole, which I don;t use anyway. I don't see how it can be done to a b4, as there is no axle spacer so you cant make the car wide enough to accomadate(sp?) the offset of the 4wd rims. Also, I dont know if you can find a bearing to fit in the narrowness of the rim. Red tapers huh? I guess they decided to sweep the track after the opener? That was a fun time, I got mud in places I didn't know existed (on the car of course) I'm also guessing the track has a little more bite, Is the hot setup still a slippery setup or a decent bite setup?

The "hot" setup really depends on if the track gets swept. Since they run 1/8 buggy on the same day as the electrics it depends how much the track is torn up from them. I think that the reds will work fine come the nats since the track is going to be well preped and maintained. I'd bring some pinks with you just incase. If Chris preps the track like he usualy does for his big electric only races there should be alot of traction.

Sounds good. I was hoping to get up there for the regionals but outside things prevented me from going. I'll try and tell the guys from LIR thats are going, they are never going to believe that Madness takes Tapers.... The dirt was so oldschool I'm suprised we didn't have to bring Gold Step pins!

Rumor has it that Chris is getting some fresh clay to resurface the track with for the nats. He's going to make sure that this race is one to remember. He has alot of cool things in the works.

Yes they do, But we use Pinks down here, and as you can see, they only come in red and silver. I have a set of red, but I refrain from using them, they are like butter.

Nick,

Just a heads up, they are also having great success with rear red IFMAR's at Madness.
