Anyone still running their 2.0 on carpet? I only race a few times a year and am not super competitive, so I refuse to upgrade at the moment since I have 3 22 2.0's and a metric boatload of spare parts.

Going carpet racing in a few weeks and wondering what mods and/or parts are now available to make my 2.0 as nimble on the carpet as possible? Thanks for any suggestions.

When a carpet track opened locally last year I tried it out. I don't have many spare parts to work on a good setup, so it didn't last long till I got a new carpet kit. If you figure out a reasonable setup I would love to hear it, as I would like to use this buggy for friends/family that want to try out racing.

I have one on carpet. Mine even has teh stand up transmission. I placed 4th in the Amain the one time I raced it. Right about where I expected to be. I'm new to this.

I bought mine used, put some schumacher carpet tires on it, and gave it a go. I did change the spring setup to be similar to what the 4.0 guys are running. Works great. I now have a 4.0, but my 2.0 feels more dialed and I prefer driving it. It does want to traction roll, so I have it pretty low to the ground around 14mm.

You are not going to beat the Xray and B6.1 out there, but you sure as heck are going to have a ton of fun trying!

Thinking about trying to fab up some swaybars on my 2.0...

I've never raced carpet offroad, but here's my initial thoughts:

Stiffer springs, heavier weight shock fluid, shock limiters to limit travel, lowered ride height, swaybars.

Yeah, all good things. I don't run sway bars, but I'm sure they would help.
I put 37.5wt oil in the front, and 32.5 in the back. I run AE v2 reds in front and grays in back. The car is at 15mm ride height. I didn't limit the shock travel. Also i tightened my slipper down all the way.
Tires make a heck of a difference on carpet.

I think on tight tracks the battery orientation really helps. On tight tracks it's a lot more point and shoot. so the transfer to stop and go of weight with the battery longways really helps. If there are sweepers and faster turns I think the sideways battery helps engage the suspension.

Ok, serious question -

If I want to run these JConcepts Swaggers in the front:
https://www.amainhobbies.com/jconcep...12960?v=507813

It says I need "narrow/slim" front wheels. Does anyone make a narrow front wheel for the 22 2.0? 10mm front hex (I think, right?)

OR - a 12mm conversion mod for the 2.0?

I just went through this on my car. You can buy the regular rims, and use them. Some people choose to use the slim tires and cut off teh outside ring. You don't even have to cut it off, you can leave it on.

But then I went to a track recently where they stretch slim tires over the full width wheel. Then really glue up the tire side walls, like smear your CA on them after you glue the tires on. That is how I run my cars now. I think it gives it a more natural feel.

To summarize, get the regular wheels and do one of three things:
  1. Mount tires on in slim configuration and leave the inner ring there
  2. Mount tires on in slim configuration and cut the inner ring off with a dremmel (this is just for looks)
  3. Mount slim tires in wide tire configuration

Of course if it tickles your fancy you can swap out for the 12mm hex. I didn't.

Any chance you know if the 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 front axles fit the 2.0? I'm thinking this may be the way to go just in case at some point I do end up upgrading to a newer chassis I wont have to buy all new tires if I have a few sets

I can 100% confirm that the 3.0 axles fit (I have them on my 2.0). I have been told that the 4.0 fit as well but I cannot confim this. Don't know if the 5.0 axles will fit.

Thanks for answering all my random questions!

Does anyone have any pics of a 2.0 with the sideways battery mod? Specifically WITHOUT the battery in? I'd like to see how you milled the chassis down
